@Treacle_A Yes, it's Japan's most-iconic rail journey. The Shinkansen is such a smooth ride. I appreciate the quiet passengers a lot more after taking a first class trip from Lisbon to Faro this year, and having to listen to someone gassing away for an hour on a work call.

I traveled by train and remember the trains in Rajasthan being some of the best. The food their was incredible, like curries you back home.

Nara (Japan) countryside from the train

I took this pic travelling on the wonderful Shimakaze (Kintetsu) train from Osaka to Toba. It's a scenic journey through Nara and Mie prefectures with verdant mountains, countryside and recently planted rice fields (in May on this trip).

@RossFootball Yes, the trains and breadth of the rail network is incredible here. They're short on overnight trains https://t.co/rzHFQpNoDK and buffet cars. The Shinkansen (bullet trains) speed and eki-ben (railway bento box meals) more than make up for it though. Must visit if you love trains
