This evening I had the immense pleasure of walking with this young couple - Martin and Fortunate Mugarura.
Martin started off by walking during COVID and now hes an ardent runner. He intends to do the Comrades Marathon in 2024.
Fortunate is looking to be a leader in her field. She is a lawyer and a mental health enthusiast.
As we walked, we gleaned the leadership lessons that Martin is applying from running.
My main take away was about thinking. Running gives one the opportunity to think. A leader’s first job is to think. An organization can never rise above the quality of thinking of the leader. What you think about you bring about. Do you think about what you’re thinking about or do you let your mind toss and turn you every which way? Solitude is great for thinking. Escape the crowd sometimes. Make time to think.
