Behind that scuba diving, an expenditure of Rs 26 crore was made and the entire ecosystem spread that news, linking that scuba diving with marine life and environment, and such propaganda was done... But the country’s policy, our leadership’s thinking and our people now know everything. Now you cannot come to power, so why do you want to destroy the country’s growth, our country’s assets and our future...”

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: During The Andaman Ideas Summit 2026, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju says “Not just the Leader of Opposition, there is a whole ecosystem. I am not saying Rahul Gandhi alone, he is just a pawn. Such a large ecosystem is working in this country today. Whenever a dam is built, they reach there in the name of environment. If there is any mining or any good project, they go there to stop it in the name of environment. If a highway project is taken up, their entire platoon reaches there to stop it. They file PILs and start protests. This Maoist group has completely destroyed the country. And with their support, the government that ran for such a long time did not take the country on the path of development. Now see under the leadership of PM Modi the progress we are making and the trust we are receiving from the people. There is no need for frustration. If the people do not vote for you or you do not come to power, then in a democracy the people are God. So why abuse the country? There is no need to stop the country’s development.”

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: During The Andaman Ideas Summit 2026, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on the Great Nicobar Project says “Strategically what is our advantage, Whenever the Government of India implements any project, especially mega projects, if you want to oppose it, then you should explain it to people in detail. Without reasoning and without explaining the real basis, if you just say in the air that the environment will be destroyed or that everyone will be harmed by the project, then by making such vague statements you cannot stop a project.”

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: During The Andaman Ideas Summit 2026, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju says “These allegations have been made, and I reject them. Baseless allegations should not be made, especially by those holding responsible positions. We do discuss in Parliament and debates do take place, that is fine. But when it comes to projects in national interest, they should not be opposed. On marine life and the marine ecosystem, the Lieutenant Governor has explained, and I myself went today and saw how beautiful the underwater world is. There will be no compromise in protecting it, and only our government can work for its conservation. But for development, projects also have to be implemented. We cannot live our entire life just by diving. We have to do many other things. So while diving is important, forest conservation is also important. I am stating the facts. Everything has to be done—environment protection, development projects, protection of indigenous and native communities, and industries must also come. This should also become one of the world’s most beautiful tourism centres, and it should not be deprived of that. That is why I believe these projects have already been delayed, they should have happened earlier.”

His mindset, his thinking, and the people behind him, there is an NGO group that keeps giving him ideas: do this, do that. We are colleagues, so we do talk and meet. As the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, it is my responsibility, I speak with the Leader of Opposition as well, he comes to my office, and I also visit senior leaders at their homes. He is not our enemy. But when actions go against the national interest, I get very angry. Otherwise, you can criticise the government, abuse it, that is fine, it works in a democracy. But if you oppose important national projects, I cannot accept that. So whether it is the Leader of Opposition or anyone else, I always say that debates and opposition are fine in a democracy. But there are some issues where we must stand united.”

When there was a war between China and India in 1962, the Communist Party split. One faction within the Communist Party was supporting China, you are aware of that. Later it divided into CPI and CPM. Even today, there is a large section in India that cannot see India’s progress. We removed Article 370, they opposed it. Whenever any good project is undertaken, they oppose it. So we cannot reform them, but all the positive-thinking people who think for the country must come together. The time has come, and such people need to be marginalised. And especially the elements that try to stop India’s progress must be strongly countered”

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: During The Andaman Ideas Summit 2026, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on the importance of the Great Nicobar Project says “I had a very nice scuba diving there today. So, my scuba diving today was to promote tourism, to promote the activities which are being done here, not to block the futuristic project. So, the Great Nicobar Project, if it gets its required support from everybody, if we get the project on time, I think it is one of those transformational projects of our nation. It's a huge project, not only cost-wise, but strategically in terms of importance. It is one of the defining projects ever conceived by the Government of India. It's a mega project. And people need to really go deep inside and see it. It will ensure the protection of environment, it will ensure the wildlife, the ecosystem is well protected. Our laws are very strong. At the same time, it will unleash the potential which this area offers. And it will have a transformational impact to the neighbouring countries also. That is the level of its importance.”

I was sad that it became a point of politicking. I know there are a huge number of bodies which are working against India’s growth. A big number. I have been in government for a long time, I know. Sometimes even if we speak out also, people don’t understand. Some people don’t understand. Inside the country, we have certain groups and certain elements which are working very hard, but they are being fueled by external agencies. The world is very complicated today. It is not the same as in the past. All decisions are not commercial these days. Every decision is strategic. If I have to sell you coal, I don’t see how much profit I’ll get. I’ll see whether the country is behaving as per my interest, my requirement. Every commercial decision has become a strategically decided decision. It is not in isolation, it is not commercial anymore. A country can block supply chains anytime. In such times, if we don’t leverage our strategic advantage, when will we wake up, We will never wake up. If we don’t. This 21st century first quarter is going to decide the fate of the entire 21st century. And if we miss this opportunity, we may miss the bus forever.”

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: During The Andaman Ideas Summit 2026, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, over his criticism of the Great Nicobar Island development project, says, “Our country cannot allow arbitrary destruction of anything. Our environment law is very strong and under the leadership of the Prime Minister, our government’s policy towards climate, environment, ecosystem, marine life and wildlife is very safe. When we talk about blue economy, what is its contribution to the country’s economy, We have such vast oceans and the Indian Ocean, what contribution do they make to India’s GDP And in a large region like the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, what work have we done and what benefits have we derived for the country, That is the question. There has been no environmental destruction here. In this large territory of Andaman, necessary settlements from West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and other places have come and everything is being done under rules. They do not cut forests, they do not indulge in illegal activities or smuggling in the sea. They work honestly and help protect the environment and native people. That is why the propaganda spread by Rahul Gandhi is meant to stop India from gaining a strategic strength and advantage in the future.”
