Many have asked about why Spartans Illustrated is an independent site now. Here's the abbreviated version of the story.

In December 2022, our team from The Only Colors made the move to Rivals to take over for SpartanMag, which had transitioned to On3.

While Michigan State has plenty of veterans, there is a lot of focus on the freshman class as the regular season approaches.

How did they look last night in the exhibition versus UConn? Read below to find out. ⤵️

Last night we saw a trio of Michigan State freshman versus a top-5 opponent. I left the game with optimism on how they will impact this team throughout the year.

“Yeah, I feel like it just raises my confidence."

It would be easy for Jeremy Fears to chase individual accolades as he has already been named to pre-season lists. However, that isn’t what is on his mind, as he’s hoping to lead his team to a national title.

With so much of the focus going into this season on Jeremy Fears, the All-American point guard’s approach goes far deeper than meets the eye.

Pre-season efficiency rankings were released today. Michigan State is ranked as followed:

KenPom: 7th (offense 20/defense 5)
Torvik: 10th (offense 15/defense 9)
Evan Miya: 9th (offense 16/defense 6)

What are your thoughts, agree disagree?

2027 three-star Kingston Thomas was on an official visit to Michigan State this past weekend. An East Lansing native who will play at La Lumiere School this winter.

Michigan State ranked No. 7 in Ken Pom’s preseason rankings.

Pat Fitzgerald’s passion was obvious to Spartan fans Saturday. His frustration reflected theirs, his energy helped lift the crowd, and his players kept fighting.

The fans still expect the wins to come - but Fitzgerald gave them someone to rally around:

As much criticism Milijvojevic has received, and despite the misread on the first play he played very very well yesterday. Hopefully a confidence boost of what he can be.

Michigan State came within one play of completing a 17-point comeback against Illinois.

Why Pat Fitzgerald went for two, why the play failed, and what the decision says about the program he is building:

Alessio Milijvojevic almost lead Michigan State all the way back to beat Illinois after falling down 17-0. "Cloudy vision" on the game's opening play ended up being a massively critical play.

Michigan State was one play away from a much needed win. While the Spartans showed fight, quarterback Alessio Milijvojevic knew they had to be better.

"We just weren’t executing at a high level.”

This is crazy

Pemberton's craftiness and finishing ability can't be lost with how elite he is in the mid range. Not to mention his distributing is noticably better than he's often given credit for. Izzo got a good one.

[Jonah Wilson @JonahWilson__]

Sad about football?

Have no fear basketball season is upon us and the Spartans were in action last night. If you didn't get to watch, here are my thoughts.

[Jonah Wilson @JonahWilson__]

We don't usually get this good of a look at Spartan Basketball on October 2nd. For Tom Izzo, it was exactly what he needed.

"We accomplished what we wanted to accomplish. This will give us a good chance to say this is really what we need to work on.”

Your Spartans have entered the Campout

[Jonah Wilson @JonahWilson__]

Jasiah Jervis starting to get more comfortable out there. Has hit two from deep in the last minute and some change.

[Jonah Wilson @JonahWilson__]

Don't fact check me, but I believe Anton Bonke is the tallest Spartan to ever hit a three. Non-official of course being an exhibtion.

[Jonah Wilson @JonahWilson__]

Double-double for Jeremy Fears now as he is up to 10 points and 12 assists. Repeatedly collapsing the defense and finding open teammates.
