Did you know that in 1923 Whitecross Company made what was the longest wire winding rope in the world at 6,600ft/2,011m. It was used in a goldmine in S. Africa.

Did you know the rigging on the Lusitania was made in Warrington? It was made at Longford Iron & Steel Works, Dallam, specialists in wire rope for ships and suspension bridges. #ThrowbackThursday

Warrington’s wireworks were communities with clubs & activities. Below is the Rylands Brothers’ snooker team, early 20th century. One player has lost an eye, a frequent occurrence in factories. #ThrowbackThursday

The pupils, now in Year 6, worked with artist Laurence Payot in the summer to create poetry and movement, using the inherent uses and properties of wire as inspiration for their work.

It was a pleasure to welcome St Andrews’ Primary School pupils to the exhibition on Wednesday last week as part of their study of local industrial history.
