Harpreet Singh, brother of Amritpal Singh, has been arrested on false drug charges which are in part politically motivated, WPD lawyer @advimaankhara shares in a statement.
He shares that the charges will be fought in the courts, and it's no secret India uses false charges to detain dissidents and activists, reminding people that there are even many Sikh political prisoners sitting in jails without any charges at all.
BREAKING | Amritpal Singh's mother, Balwinder Kaur, announced at a press conference today that her son will be running as an Independent from Khadoor Sahib in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
While Amritpal Singh did not want to run, the decision was made due to the encouragement and demand of the Sikh community as well as to support those in arbitrary detention with him under the NSA.
Bhai Amritpal Singh and his fellow detainees in Assam's Dibrugarh jail are currently in a precarious state. They are pointing out that the food provided to them may be contaminated with poisonous substances by the authorities. They have been held in confinement at the Dibrugarh facility since March of last year under the harsh provisions of the National Security Act despite the complete absence of any concrete evidence justifying their detainment. Their sole transgression is because of their vocal advocacy for Sikh rights within the context of a supposedly democratic nation.
Should any harm befall these Sikh political prisoners in Dibrugarh, both the prime minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi and the chief minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, must bear responsibility for this sad affair.
We urgently call for Bhai Amritpal Singh and other Singh’s immediate release from Dibrugarh prison and the initiation of a fair and transparent trial concerning the unfounded charges under which they have been unjustly detained
Waris Panjab De organization expresses its gratitude to Mr @SukhpalKhaira for taking a stand and speaking out against the unfair treatment of Sikh youth in Panjab and Bhai Amritpal Singh.
