Today, we mourn the loss of the incomparable Author and Poet, Nikki Giovanni. Born in 1943 in Knoxville, Tennessee, Yolande Cornelia “Nikki” Giovanni was always a forced to be reckoned with.
We mourn the loss of pioneering dancer/choreographer Judith Jamison.
Jamison danced with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater from 1965-1980, later becoming the company’s Artistic Director holding that title for 21 years.
We send condolences to everyone impacted by her legacy.
The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is sad to hear of the passing of music and cultural icon Frankie Beverly.
One of Frankie Beverly’s well-known hits “Before I Let Go” was heard at most African American family & friends gatherings.
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Legendary Actor James Earl Jones known for his iconic work and voice.
James Earl Jones reached EGOT status meaning he won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. He will always be remembered as the voice of a generation.
