Think about the problem in reverse. If you could go back to a Western society 100 years ago, and choose between some people not being able to feed their children and some people not being able to afford takeout or the best cuts of meat, which would you choose? Nobody is saying an abundant future will be free of problems, just that the worst case scenario will be a lot better than the current best case scenario.
