This is how bad economic commentary becomes “expert consensus” in the media.

On March 31, 2025, University of Guelph food economist Mike von Massow told Global News that the grocery impact of Canada’s counter-tariffs would be “immediate, but not substantial.” He was wrong.

On May 29, while the counter-tariffs were still in place, he told TVO that stores focused on Canadian products should see no impact. He argued that the tariffs were selective and that untariffed alternatives would “protect people.” Again, he was wrong.

Then, on August 25—after Ottawa announced the tariffs would be removed—he said they had been “selected quite carefully to minimize the impact on Canadian consumers.” Again, he was wrong.

Those were media comments, not findings from a study. No empirical analysis measuring tariff pass-through was cited.

When the Bank of Canada eventually conducted the research, using more than 110,000 products, it found that prices of tariffed goods increased by approximately 6% relative to comparable untariffed goods. For groceries, prices moved back toward previous relative levels after the counter-tariffs were removed.

That is not “no impact.” It is measurable evidence that Canadian importers, retailers and ultimately consumers absorbed part of Ottawa’s 25% tax.

This is how the media gets it wrong: find a familiar academic willing to provide immediate certainty, treat an unsupported opinion as research, and repeat it until speculation becomes accepted fact.

Commentary is not research.

Substitution does not make a tax disappear. Counter-tariffs are paid in Canada—and Canadians ultimately bear the cost.

Navid Mohammadzadeh, one of Iran’s biggest movie stars, Venice winner, posted a video two weeks ago wearing Palestine colors and declaring he will support them forever.

Iranians didn’t argue. They didn’t “have a conversation.” They erased him.
Nearly a million unfollows in a day.
His current Tehran play’s ticket sales cratered so badly the producers dropped him from the cast.

Footage published this weekend shows food parcels from the WFP and other organizations remaining uncollected in Gaza City, while residents report that food is accumulating in shelters and being sold at low prices in local markets.

These images confirm what COGAT has consistently stated: the volume of aid entering Gaza significantly exceeds the population’s needs.

When aid is left untouched, the conclusion is clear. Gaza is not lacking food; it is flooded with it.

The evidence from inside Gaza, the UN’s own findings, including UNICEF’s latest SMART survey, and COGAT’s humanitarian data all point to the same reality.

Claims of famine and widespread shortages are not supported by the facts. Continuing to promote them only serves Hamas and its efforts to manufacture a false picture of crisis in Gaza.

A cleric in Iran just announced that if a woman gets to choose her own clothes, then a man gets the right to rape her.

Do not scroll past that. Read it twice.

That is not a slip of the tongue. That is not a fringe opinion from the back of a mosque. That is Kazem Rohbakhsh an official worldview of the Islamic Republic of Iran, finally spoken without the mask.

For 45 years this regime has told women they are the problem. Cover yourself, or you "tempt" men. Dress modestly, or you "deserve" what comes next. And now the punchline, straight from the cleric's mouth: If you dare to be free, then we are free to sexually assault you.

Let me be clear about something.
That is the whole ideology of the Islamic Republic of Iran in one sentence. A regime so terrified of women that it believes your only choice is a headscarf or a predator.

So here is my answer to the mullah, in simple words:

Women don’t need to cover themselves to control men’s behavior. Men need to control themselves.

A woman's body is not a bargaining chip. Our freedom is not a crime. And your "right to rape" is not a right. It is a confession. A confession that your ideology is too weak to win a single woman's heart, so you must crush her body instead.

This is not the 19-year-old girl who was buried to her neck and stoned to death in Afghanistan

This photo is of Zarmina, a victim of the Taliban that is burned into the memory of all of us old enough to have lived through that moment. Zarmina was the mother of seven, and her husband savagely beat her and their two eldest two daughters nightly. They finally reached their breaking point and killed him.

The Taliban tortured and beat Zarmina for 3 years in prison. And then, on November 16, 1999, the Taliban made her kneel on the penalty spot in Kabul’s Olympic Stadium and one of her husband’s relatives shot her through the head in front of 30,000 people. Brave activists from The Revolutionary Association of Women of Afghanistan, smuggled a harrowing video clip out of the country.

And as for Zarmina’s children? Under Islamic law, the 16 and 14-year-old daughters were given to the husband’s brother. He sold them into sex slavery to a man in Khost, then a Taliban stronghold. The haggling over the price for the girls is what had delayed their mother’s execution.

Zarmina’s corpse lay unclaimed for 20 days in the morgue. Her own mother was afraid to collect her daughter’s body. Zarmina eventually was buried in an unmarked grave north of Kabul.

That barbaric Taliban lost power after 9/11. We hoped they were relegated to the dust bin of notorious history. But after America left the country in 2021, a new generation Taliban returned and began enforcing again their medieval version of Islamic fundamentalism. Girls banned from school. Women banned from work, parks, even raising their voices. Men in charge no matter what they do to women.

Sharia law under the Taliban is a poisonous ideology that has nothing but contempt for women. And in 2026, we get the silence as we did in 1999 from the people who never stop lecturing the rest of us about “women’s rights.”
