Students win in Bangladesh, the authoritarian prime minister resigned and has fled the country after 15 years in power.

Students overthrew the government after weeks of protests against a job quota system that reserved up to 30% of government jobs for veterans' families. Nearly 300 people were killed in the clashes and at least 11,000 people have been arrested. The protests began peacefully, with students opposing a system they believed favored those connected to the Prime Minister's Awami League party, but it escalated into a rebellion against the Prime Minister and her party. The quota system was later amended by the Supreme Court but protests continued calling for the removal of the Prime Minister and her party due to authoritarianism and human rights violations. The rebellion resulted in the closure of schools and universities, and authorities at one point imposed a shoot-on-sight curfew.

The military has temporarily taken control and met with opposition politicians, civil society leaders and will seek the president's guidance on forming an interim government. An investigation is promised to determine who is responsible for the killings. It is unclear what the plan is to improve the economy or provide more qualified jobs for students as peace returns to the country.
