George Washington reads the Declaration of Independence aloud to his troops in New York City, in full view of British warships in the harbor, taunting them to fire at him.
You will never regret anything done or given for the cause of Christ.
Lay up for yourself treasures in Heaven.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”

For generations, a certain kind of scholar insisted that King David never existed. David, they argued, was a myth, a legendary founder invented centuries later to give Israel a glorious past, like King Arthur for Britain. There was no evidence outside the Bible that he had ever lived or reigned. The united kingdom of David and Solomon, they said, was a fairy tale.
Then in 1993, at Tel Dan in northern Israel, archaeologists uncovered a broken slab of basalt stone. It was a victory monument, erected by an enemy king of Israel, boasting in Aramaic of his conquests. And there, carved into the stone by a hostile foreign hand, were the words: the House of David.
Think about the weight of that. This was not written by an Israelite scribe wanting to honor his own royal line. It was written by an enemy, roughly a century after David lived, referring to the kingdom of Judah as the dynasty of David, as a matter of plain political fact. You do not credit a rival kingdom to a founder who never existed. The reference is casual, almost dismissive, which is exactly what makes it powerful. To this enemy king, the House of David was simply a known reality.
The skeptics fell silent. A single line of enemy propaganda, buried for nearly three thousand years, had confirmed what the Bible said all along.
To the world, the great figures of Scripture are folklore, dressed up over time into heroes who never breathed. But the shepherd boy who became king, the ancestor from whose line the Messiah was promised to come, left his fingerprint on the historical record, written by those who had no reason to flatter him.
From the House of David came Jesus, born in David's town of Bethlehem, the King whose throne would never end. The promises of God are not myth. They are anchored in real history, and they reach forward to you. Trust the One who keeps them.
Jesus is the Son of David, the King of kings.
