@jwsherrod Sure, but if you can't acknowledge that Gen Z is a particularly economically disadvantaged generation, the situation becomes that much harder.
In fact the two go hand in hand, as the normalization of inflation discourages savings in favor of increased consumption and greater reliance on speculation.
Even if individuals aren't conscious of the tradeoffs, the culture is shaped by the reality of economic incentives.
Indeed. Not to mention well-being is subjective and relative.
People who dismiss the very real economic hardship out there and failure to launch phenomenon are useful idiots for the Left.
By the Fed's own numbers, CPI is 50%+ over target and hasn't been close to their target rate for over half a decade.
That's on their own terms, without critiquing the 2% inflation target as a regressive annual tax, or how Fed policy enriches investors at the expense of workers.
It's not real tho. In 2025, food prices were up 3%, 2.4% in groceries. In 2026, it's been 3% again, 2.7% increase in groceries. In the best times, food prices rise 2%-3% year over year. We still have cumulative inflation from covid, but there are no time machines. Can things be done? Sure, let's cut tariffs. But acting like we're in some unique inflationary era doesn't help anyone.
One of our TPUSA college students gave me his take on affordability:
“A burrito shouldn’t cost $20.”
Yeah, a lot of this is a hangover from Covid and Biden-era inflation, but the lived experience is the same: It just feels like basic things cost too much.
Friedmanite neoliberalism unleashed technocratic central bankers, which plunder the next generation to bailout the old. That's not capitalism, its financialization.
No one is more to blame for Gen Z cynicism of markets than neolib "free market" think tanks and mouthpieces.
These think-tank-types like Marc scold young people and pressure the GOP to adopt a “market knows better than you” response to young people struggling with affordability.
Then they’re somehow surprised when actual socialists like Mamdani and El-Sayed take advantage of it.
Breaking: The Birmingham Stallions will not be part of the 2027 UFL season.
The Birmingham Stallions will go down as the most successful spring football team in modern history.
🏆 2022 – USFL Champions
🏆 2023 – Back-to-Back Champions
🏆 2024 – Inaugural UFL Champions
Three consecutive championships. Two league MVP’s. A modern spring football dynasty. No. 1 UFL TV market in the country.
@elliotismz@realDavidBJr It’s a worthwhile read. There is a lot of good material to be mined.
The context of the author's ideology can't be ignored, but I learned new info from both.
In 1951 Milton Friedman published a paper called "Neoliberalism and Its Prospects." He proposed swapping laissez-faire for a competitive order the state would police, and called money creation a proper function of government. @ThoBishop#MisesU
