@CobraineyMedia@mass_ave Being called a Sooner in that time was an accusation of being a cheater, dishonest, and liable of losing your land. But the land run was romanticized and OU rebranded it for their pioneering spirit.
@CobraineyMedia@mass_ave There was a land run back in 1899 that opened central OK up for settlement. Some people snuck over early to get desirable parcels. They were originally called moonshiners but after the sooner clause (which disqualified them) they became known as Sooners.
Knicks sent a "phishing email" disguised as a championship ring offer to Madison Square Garden employees.
Those that clicked the fake link were forced to attend a mandatory cybersecurity class to "help satisfy some of [James] Dolan's cybersecurity concerns."

SGA on checking himself out despite being 3 points away from keeping his historic 20 point streak going:
“I was gonna go out there. And then I saw that they had subbed. So I thought we should sub too. You always treat the game with respect.”
@Yankeesfantwt@mass_ave Who does that other than OU students? Definitely not anyone near Payne County. Family’s been here since the 1890s and never met anyone that referred to themself as a Sooner, outside of OU.
@mass_ave Historically yes. But people in Oklahoma today refer to themselves as Okies. I think this changed in the 1960s by the Governor to reclaim the word and take pride in being from Oklahoma.
