🎉 Celebrating 10 Years of Biomedical Science Day!🎉
To mark this special milestone, we’ve created a collage featuring past and present students, academics, and colleagues from across the years who have helped shape and inspire our biomedical science course and community.
Research inductions in full swing for some of our Level 6 Biomedical Science students
Practicing aseptic technique, handling lung and prostate cancer cell lines, and performing manual cell counts with haemocytometers- building confidence in core cell culture skills! #biomed#IBMS
Using Biopac software and peak flow measurements, they investigated lung volumes and respiratory function bringing physiology to life through real data analysis!
Our students also delved into biochemistry, assessing lipid profiles and glucose tolerance after Lucozade ingestion!
From Micro to Molecular our Biomed students explored a spectrum of biological investigation applying aseptic technique, culturing E.coli and unknown bacteria, analysing colony morphology before progressing to gel electrophoresis, PCR purification and cycle sequencing
#Biomed#PCR
Did someone say DNA?!
Students have been diving into some molecular biology fun, extracting bacterial DNA and running PCR to amplify their genes of interest. From pipettes to thermal cyclers, they’ve been mastering the skills that make molecular magic happen #BiomedicalScience
What do your muscles and eyes reveal about your body?
Students exploring electromyography and electrooculography - measuring muscle and eye movements using Biopac tech! Electrical signals control every move we make! #UniversityOfStaffordshire#BiomedicalScience#Physiology
After a period of hiatus, we will be more active on this page in the new year. We hope that you have a restful break and for those who celebrate it we would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!! See you in 2026!
I am so incredibly proud of our #biomedicalscience team winning the Educational Institution award at the #IBMSAwards2024 We have such an amazing team of academics & technicians and it's so brilliant that we are being recognised and rewarded! Might be biased but fully deserved!
Taken a lot longer than I wanted but so happy that my corrections for my PhD have been accepted.
5 years of blood, sweat and tears have all been worth it!!
Officially Dr Thomas Bird!! #phdlife
Some of my PhD research focuses on unconscious bias and the need for training/education for jurors. A tool I developed would go someway to help! Looking forward to getting it published over the next coming months.
Brilliant debate @DrJessTaylor
The Law Commission is looking at whether juryless trials would improve rape conviction rates.
'This is like a postcode lottery for victims and witnesses.'
Psychologist and founder of Victim Focus @DrJessTaylor supports the idea of judges or a judicial panel replacing juries in rape trials.
However, Former President of the Law Society @IStephanieBoyc1 says 'juries are a fundamental part of our justice system.'
After 4 long years of doing my PhD. I successfully defended my thesis yesterday.
A massive thank you to my supervisors @LauraWaltonWill and @ProfGAWilliams.
But also thanks to the examination team for a challenging debate surrounding my research.
Dr (pending corrections) Bird
It's the little things that make my job as a lab technician so rewarding. Had a student give me and my colleague a box of chocolates each for helping them with their dissertation practical work in an area they were unfamiliar with.
Anyone know of any interesting podcasts on Spotify to listen to?
Got a 2 hour round commute to sink my teeth into something. #phdlife#phdchat#AcademicChatter
Holy shit (excuse the language)... I have been reading an article around my research and they have referenced my work!!! My first ever citation. Ahhh I am so happy!!
Hi all. I am officially returning back to my PhD research after being off on maternity leave. For my final study, I am looking for fingerprint experts to help establish effective documentation for fingerprint examinations? For more info contact [email protected]
