Today union officials met with backbench MPs to discuss the urgent need for industrial manslaughter laws in NSW.
Since the last time the NSW Parliament considered legislation on industrial manslaughter, 125 workers have lost their lives at work.

Last night, we also launched the Visa Assist program in the ACT.
This will mean all union members in the ACT will now have access to free immigration advice and legal support for all their visa-related issues.
We are in Canberra this week to discuss the endemic exploitation of migrant workers in Australia, and the migrant system’s lack of visa protections for workers who report workplace law breaches.
We’re urging the Federal Government to introduce an earn-as-you-learn model that would see students undertaking placements paid for their work.

This is a great legislative reform we’ve been campaigning for over a number of years. The colour of your passport shouldn’t determine your workplace rights. If you work in Australia you should have the same workplace rights as every other worker!
What are you really missing out on when you work overtime? Our activists were out chatting to workers this morning about unpaid overtime. The average Aussie worker does 7 weeks of unpaid overtime a year, losing out on $11k in wages as a result.

Unions NSW this morning passed an urgent resolution in line with the ACTU and ITUC calling for all sides and the international community to act for peace in Gaza. We urgently appeal to the Australian government to use all available diplomatic means to demand a ceasefire.
