Football Throw-in Coach | Part of 18 Titles & 5 Promotions | Transforming Throw-ins into a Competitive Advantage | Keynote Speaker & Bestselling Author
Your team probably takes 40–50 throw-ins every match.
Most clubs still underestimate them.
That might be costing you points.
After working with clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Ajax, Brentford, Dortmund and FC Midtjylland, one thing has become very clear to me:
Throw-ins are still one of the biggest untapped advantages in football.
As a freelance throw-in coach, I’ve now been part of 18 titles and 5 promotions in international football — including 3 titles and 2 promotions this season, plus a Champions League final with Arsenal on Saturday.
I work with a “Long, Fast and Clever Throw-in Philosophy”, always tailored to the team and coaching staff.
Depending on the team, clubs I’ve coached have typically focused on:
A. Long throw-ins (Brentford, FC Midtjylland)
B. Fast and clever throw-ins (Liverpool, Ajax, Dortmund)
C. A complete throw-in strategy combining long, fast and clever throw-ins (Arsenal)
The process is simple:
1. We discuss your playing style, formation, and current throw-in approach.
2. I analyse your throw-ins to identify strengths and weaknesses.
3. I visit your club for 2–3 days of tailored throw-in coaching with players and staff.
The goal is not only to improve the team immediately, but also to educate coaches so the work continues long after I leave.
Most clubs already have a set-piece coach — but very few have specialist throw-in knowledge.
If you want to improve your throw-ins before next season, feel free to reach out.

NEW THROW-IN WORLD RECORD! 🏆
Saturday was a special day.
At Dalby Stadium in Kolding, Denmark, I set a new world record for the longest throw-in distance achieved in one hour: 5,156 metres.
The attempt went so well that I had already broken the previous world record after just 36 minutes and 45 seconds, leaving more than 23 minutes on the clock.
The previous record stood at 4,324 metres and had been held since 2012.
A special part of the challenge was that I wore 9 different shirts during the attempt – shirts representing clubs where I have been part of winning titles as a throw-in coach.
In that way, the record attempt also became a tribute to the many players, coaches and staff members I have had the privilege of working with throughout my career.
At the same time, the event was used to raise funds for the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation, making the day even more meaningful.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event, helped behind the scenes, donated, or followed the journey.
If you would like to support the fundraising campaign, donations are still welcome. Every contribution makes a difference.
Now the question is...
Should I try to break my own world record? 🤔⚽

@widger123 I could stand still if I wanted - but that would limit the distance - the reason I only walked was because I got injured recently, so I couldn´t run - so before I was a bit unsure if I could even throw.
But that unfolded quite well in the end.

@widger123 Thanks a lot
The rules are quite complex - but for example: I could have people get the ball - but not feed them.
The throw should also be marked before I could throw again.
Then there should be three sighters, two timekeepers, one referee, some widnesses
Today I was live on Danish Radio ahead of my throw-in world record attempt tomorrow.
During the interview, the journalist mentioned that he wanted to improve his throw-in length. We only had the 2½-minute song break to work on it — so I quickly coached his technique.
When we came back live on air, he had already improved his throw-in by 5 meters.
Of course, this was an extreme example 😄
But honestly, in many of the professional clubs where I work, players improve their throw-ins by 5–10 meters after just 15 minutes of focused throw-in coaching.
And when you consider that long throw-ins can be used not only as an attacking weapon near the opponent’s goal, but also for faster counterattacks and increasing the effective throw-in area across the pitch…
…it’s a pretty strong return on investment for a very small amount of training time.
My name is Thomas Gronnemark, and I’m a throw-in coach.

Throw-ins are still one of football’s most underused weapons.
30 years. 22 years. 58 years. 17 years. First time. First time.
What do these numbers have in common?
They represent clubs ending long waits for success — or achieving something for the very first time.
And yes, I had one thing in common with all of them:
I was their throw-in coach.
⚽ Liverpool FC – first league title in 30 years
⚽ Arsenal – first league title in 22 years
⚽ Union Saint-Gilloise – promotion to the top Belgian league after 58 years
⚽ JEF United Chiba – promotion after 17 years
⚽ Philadelphia Union – first conference title
⚽ Sabah FC – first league title
So far, I’ve been part of 18 titles and 5 promotions.
Of course, football success is never about one thing.
But there are typically 40–50 throw-ins in a match.
That means 40–50 moments where you can:
• keep possession instead of losing it
• create pressure instead of relieving it
• create chances instead of wasting opportunities
And yet throw-ins are still one of the most overlooked parts of the game.
Small improvements in 40–50 situations per match can become a surprisingly big competitive edge over a season.
What does a throw-in coaching visit look like?
1️⃣ A meeting with coaches to understand formation, playing style, and match principles
2️⃣ Analysis of the team’s throw-ins to identify strengths and weaknesses
3️⃣ On-pitch implementation over 2–3 days
Sessions are typically only 30–45 minutes, meaning teams can still focus on other preseason priorities.
Depending on the club’s needs, I coach:
→ long throw-ins
→ fast throw-ins
→ clever throw-ins
→ or a combination of all three
Every club already has football knowledge. Most also have a set-piece coach or a set-piece point of contact.
But while many teams are strong on corners and free kicks, throw-ins are often an untapped competitive advantage.
That’s why I also educate the coaching staff, so the work continues long after I leave.
Preseason booking has started, and spots are limited.
If you want to explore how throw-in coaching could fit your team and create a competitive advantage, send me a message.
Saturday the 30th of May I’m doing a throw-in world record attempt ⚽️
I’m throwing in the shirts of the 9 clubs I have won a title with (18 titles) 🏆
Can you guess the clubs or do you have a favourite shirt?
I’m raising money for the “Child Cancer Foundation”, and the record I’m trying to beat is most throw-in meters in an hour.
I’ve just turned 50, so to throw more than 4324 meters in an hour will be a battle.
Hope for you support ❤️⚽️☀️
Please like, share or comment for the good cause

I don´t think they were arrogant. I was there in 5 years - 7 titles. I wanted to increase my number of visits to the club after the Covid 19 lockdown - and I think Jürgen wanted to keep the same numbers.
So we parted - but as friends.
With that said - Liverpool need to improve their throw-ins again.
