I try to find all visible community notes related to tobacco harm reduction.
Data gathering and scripting to find the tweets done by @plopnl.

Master thread on all the community notes I could find.
Franciscan Health kicks it off by receiving the first note that showed up.
They show that a rising trend means a decline.

The rising trend in vaping among teens can have negative impacts on their health. Learn about the risks of vaping, why they've become popular among teens and how to help teens stay away from it. https://t.co/316ZQkHCzQ
This one is a double whammy. First, it is AI slop, and second, it is the age old popcorn lung myth again. This time with a dash of formaldehyde scare, something our body produces naturally and we would be dead if it didn’t.

The WHO didn’t receive a note yet for false claims about secondhand exposure of vaping, so they made use of that to earn another community note.

E-cigarettes are harmful to you and the people around you.
Second-hand emissions:
🔴Typically contain nicotine, ultrafine particles and potential #cancer-causing substances
🔴Linked with increased risk of heart 🫀 and lung 🫁 disorders

Like many in tobacco control, the WHO conflates nicotine, smoking and tobacco as being one and the same. While any serious expert knows they are three separate issues and that combustion is the leading factor of the harm.

If this is true, why is nicotine on the WHO Essential Medicines List and safe for ages 12 and up? Because they forgot to tell you that these studies were done on mice, not humans. People have smoked for 100s of years with no brain damage.

What is vaping-related popcorn lung? It’s an urban myth that was debunked years ago, but which irresponsible media outlets keep claiming is a real thing.

What do you get if you claim lung effects from smoking are from vaping or conflate the 2019 lung injuries from illicit THC carts with nicotine vaping? Misinformation, which keeps people smoking deadly cigarettes instead of switching to a safer alternative.

Senator Durbin doesn’t seem to be aware that youth nicotine use reached a new record low. He wants to copy the “great success” the war on drugs has had since it started, aka zero effect. How about approving more products to outcompete the illegal market?

While Yılancıoğlu says, 'The phrase "safer than cigarettes" was a story of the 2010s,' he fails to note that in 2025, it's no longer a 'story'; it is the truth. Vaping does not cause popcorn lung. That urban myth was debunked years ago.

"Latest studies" that say vapes contain "vitamin E acetate" are referring to a 2019 outbreak caused by VEA, which was added to illicit THC vapes (NOT nicotine vapes). That outbreak ended when the cause was found and VEA ceased being used as a thickener.

A whole lot of fakery is going on. A fake popcorn lung photo (it is lung cancer) is making a fake claim that vaping causes popcorn lung.

On this #WorldCancerDay, let's help people stop smoking. One way we can do that is to tell them the truth about the safer alternatives to smoking, unlike the parties in this thread, who are spreading #misinformation.
