Greg Abel discussed Berkshire Hathaway's investment in Alphabet/Google on CNBC this morning.
• Warren Buffett initiated the position "close to fifteen months ago". That probably confirms he started buying in July 2025 when Google traded at ~$180-190.
• Abel received a phone call on a Sunday morning a few months ago about participating in Alphabet's equity offering. He called Buffett to discuss the offer and they agreed to $10 billion at a 6.5% discount from then-current prices. (Abel recommended the discount rate.)
• "We have a lot of visibility from within our companies as to how we're using AI, what type of benefits it's delivering, so that brought incremental interest [in AI]," said Abel. "We saw Google as a significant player."
"There's a lot more to Google than what I just said and why we like it, but those were the fundamental reasons as to why we took a serious look at Google and now have a significant investment in it."
When I joined Ernst & Young they made me sell my shares in Apple (an audit client I never interacted with in any way). The compliance team made a special call to me because I decided to report my stock portfolio manually rather than login with my Fidelity credentials.
Meanwhile…
Have been risk-on throughout the entire weekly streak.
Today my signals flipped to risk-off.
And only one thing, one asset class, will stand alone.
This is about the market knowing deep down I am right.
Japan will panic.
They sold Treasuries to save the Yen.
Phase 2 is now.
@KobeissiLetter trillions in passive ETF liquidity are now algorithmically forced to buy your heavy bags just because a committee picked your ticker. modern finance is beautiful.
I wish the Allbirds people luck in their attempt to pivot to GPUs. Maybe they can do it. But i regard this as the first definitive sign that things have gone too far. What a bunch of jokers and mountebanks they are..
The name of the company… NewBird AI. It is a cutting-edge, AI-native cloud infrastructure firm out of- well, they used to be out of San Francisco making sneakers, but forget that, John- they are now awaiting imminent deployment of next-generation GPU compute clusters that have both massive enterprise and consumer applications. Now, right now, John, the stock trades on the Nasdaq at about the price of a cup of coffee. And by the way, John, our analysts indicate it could go a heck of a lot higher than that. And John- one more thing- they're up 160% just today
$BIRD is selling its brand and footwear assets renaming itself NewBird AI and using a new $50M convertible facility to pivot into AI compute infrastructure by buying GPUs.
Going from selling wool sneakers to chasing AI compute might be one of the wildest pivots this cycle.
