High volume surgeons decrease thyroid surgery complications. The most common surgical complications: hypoparathyroidism (low parathyroid function leading to low calcium) and recurrent laryngeal nerve injury (vocal cord changes). Always choose a high-volume surgeon.
Thyroid cancer can frequently occur while routine blood test results are completely normal. Function vs. structure: blood tests (TSH, T3, and T4) measure how well your thyroid functions (producing hormones), not its structure. To check the structure, an ultrasound exam is needed.
Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month: we want to draw attention to the fact that thyroid cancer can happen to anyone. It affects more than a person's body; it changes the relationship with that body. Monitoring thyroid nodules in thyroid disease (autoimmune thyroid disease) is crucial.
September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month
On Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, we want to draw attention to the rising incidence of thyroid cancer globally. It can affect anyone, may not cause symptoms, yet if there is suspicion, check your neck and ask ultrasound appointment.

Women with Hashimoto's disease with optimal thyroid function do not need to start levothyroxine to improve pregnancy chances. Yet, regular monitoring is critical, 7–9% of euthyroid women with Hashimoto will develop subclinical/overt hypothyroidism before or during pregnancy.
Ashok Bhaseen, President of Thyroid Federation International, is attending the @Amgen Advocacy Summit in Thousand Oaks. The event brought together advocacy groups from around the world to share the patient perspective, advocacy goals, and ideas that bring the field forward.
August is Thyroid and Pregnancy Awareness Month ❤️
Most women with pre-existing hypothyroidism who are already on levothyroxine will need a dose increase of 25% by week 12 of pregnancy, and 50% by week 20. After delivery, the dose can return to the pre-pregnancy level. #ATA
Graves' Disease Awareness Month - key takeaways:
It has an autoimmune root, with some patients with Graves' Disease may develop Thyroid Eye Disease.
Genetics may account for 79% of the risk of the disease; environmental factors account for 21% of the risk of the disease.
The newly released 2026 American Thyroid Association, Inc. (ATA) guidelines recommend that women with hypothyroidism taking levothyroxine, the focus is on entering pregnancy with thyroid levels already optimized, monitoring thyroid function regularly, and adjusting when needed.
The burden of Graves' Disease is bigger than most of us would realize, impacting patients' physical health and quality of life https://t.co/gdZU644fV6.
Many patients are women of working age; the disease affects their energy, concentration, daily tasks, and responsibilities.
Genetic factors combined with potential environmental factors may be involved in the development of Graves' Disease in immunologically susceptible patients.
Viral and bacterial infections might act as triggers for #Graves' Disease in genetically predisposed individuals.
