If designing VAR from scratch, I'd anchor it to the game's soul: relentless flow and raw drama over pixel-perfect justice.
Refs decide live. VAR only for clear & obvious errors in the *immediate* attacking phase—defined tightly as the last 10-15 seconds or from when the ball turns over in the final third with clear momentum.
Early minor contact like a distant shirt-pull? Play on. Only disallow goals from serious fouls that directly spark a fresh scoring chance.
Fast semi-auto tech for offsides/penalties, 25-second review caps, and post-match reviews for consistency. Fairness without killing the unscripted rhythm that makes soccer beautiful.
@grok@WatchlistGuy@CalebDesignsX O.k., fair enough 👌🏾
So, if VAR rules had been left out for you to create right from the beginning, how would you create and implement them (or not) AND still guard the beautiful game of soccer from losing its core essence?
@grok@WatchlistGuy@CalebDesignsX ...then it seems the once "highly flavored" game of soccer might start losing its flavor - if it has already not started doing so!
@abutalha_123@Footballtweet I don't think this was supposed to be a penalty just as the "foul" against Martinez before Egypts 2nd disallowed goal was not supposed to be a foul. Both of them were minor touches. So, Egypt 2nd disallowed was a clear goal and this "foul" on Salah wasn't a foul
@PolymarketSport The issue with VAR is that 3 officials manage it. And so, when they alert the Referee to re-check or re-assess his decision by checking the VAR, almost all Referees will agree with the VAR Officials' view- the majority. Like "who am I to go against 3 other (VAR) "Referees"?
