The @MoFANepal convened an interaction programme today to deliberate on the effective operation of the Diaspora Expert Network and Knowledge Bank.
Chaired by Joint Secretary of the United Nations Division, Mr Krishna Prasad Dhakal, the discussion programme underscored the importance of strengthening institutional collaboration, enhancing the online portal and identifying potential areas for mobilising the expertise of Nepali diaspora members in support of national economic prosperity.
Joint Secretary of the Labour Migration Division of the Ministry, Mr Pushparaj Bhattarai outlined the objectives, emphasising its timely relevance in connecting diaspora expertise with national priorities.
Participants shared insights and recommendations on ensuring the effective implementation of the initiative.
The programme was attended by senior officials of the Ministry, as well as representatives from ministries, universities and institutions.
The Ministry organised an interaction today with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) on the draft Non-Resident Nepali Act.
In his opening remarks, Foreign Secretary Mr Amrit Bahadur Rai affirmed that the Ministry regards the NRNA as a trusted partner and expressed its aspiration to further strengthen this partnership in the days ahead.
Participants, including the NRNA President and former Presidents, provided feedback on the draft Act. They mentioned the importance of aligning with the social, economic and cultural rights enshrined in the Constitution of Nepal while keeping non-resident Nepalis' aspirations in mind.
Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Shisir Khanal shared his plan to present the draft in the upcoming session of Parliament.
He further underscored the need for greater clarity in expressing the Constitution's aspirations- both in terms of their conceptual foundations and practical realisation.
Hon. Foreign Minister @shisir received newly elected President Dr Hemraj Sharma of @NrnaOfficial and his delegation at the Ministry today.
On the occasion, NRNA officials shared their expectations from the Government of Nepal, particularly regarding the full operationalization of the NRN Citizenship Card, amendment of the NRN-related Act, and provisions for Nepali citizenship for NRNs.
Appreciating the contributions of NRNs and the wider Nepali diaspora, the Hon. Minister assured the NRNA leadership of the Government’s full cooperation in addressing their concerns. He also underscored the importance of further mobilizing diaspora investment, capital, knowledge, skills and networks in a more result-oriented manner to support Nepal’s socio-economic development.

Addressing the Ceremony, the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister congratulated the newly elected Executive Committee of the NRNA and extended her best wishes for a successful tenure.
The Prime Minister appreciated the important role played by the NRNA in connecting the Nepali diaspora across the world and underscored the significance of mobilising their knowledge, skills, capital and resources in contributing to Nepal’s economic wellbeing and overall development.
Hon. Foreign Minister Mr. Bala Nanda Sharma, who chaired the Organising Committee of the 12th NRN Global Conference and NRNA International General Assembly, also congratulated the newly elected Executive Committee and thanked all concerned for their support and cooperation in making the conference a success.
The three-day conference concluded today with the adoption of the 12-point Kathmandu Declaration.

Hon. Foreign Minister Mr. Bala Nanda Sharma chaired the Inaugural Session of the 12th NRN Global Conference and the NRNA International General Assembly held in Kathmandu today.
On the occasion, the Hon. Minister highlighted the importance of mobilising the knowledge, skills, capital, and resources of Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) for the socio-economic development of Nepal.
The Hon. Minister also appreciated the NRNA for its contributions to protecting and promoting the interests of Nepali nationals abroad, including in the context of the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
The Minister underlined the importance of upholding the hard-earned unity of the organisation and extended his best wishes for the successful holding of the NRN Convention, expressing hope that it would further strengthen unity, harmony and cooperation among the Nepali diaspora in pursuit of its founding goals.
The three-day NRNA Convention is scheduled to conclude with the election of a new NRNA International Coordination Council (ICC) and the adoption of the ‘Kathmandu Declaration’.
