I live in Seattle. I'm surrounded by Amazon people. Lovely folks. They wear a lanyard to brunch. Every single one of them has a "two-pizza team" and an opinion about leadership principles. They have never once had to worry about competition, and it shows.

And this one is personal. I'm an author. Amazon is my bookstore, my ad agency and my landlord all at once. My Grok bots were managing my Kindle ads for me. Watching bids, killing keywords that burn money, pushing the ones that sell books. Hours of my week, handed to a robot that never complains.

Now Amazon says no bots allowed. Unless it's their bot, of course. And where exactly is Amazon's bot? Rufus? Rufus can tell me what a throw pillow is made of. He cannot run my ad campaigns. Maybe Amazon outsourced the real AI work to Blue Origin. That would explain it. Big announcement, years of waiting, and it'll show up eventually. So I'm back to babysitting ad dashboards at midnight like it's 2019, while Amazon happily keeps cashing my ad spend.

Amazon doesn't hate AI. Amazon hates AI it can't charge you for.

So let me draw the competitor for you, Elon. I've done the whiteboard.

You order a new phone charger on X. Grok finds the best price. A Cybercab with nobody in the driver's seat pulls up to the warehouse. An Optimus robot loads the box, climbs in, rides to my house, walks it up the driveway and sets it on the porch. Politely. Then rings the bell, waves at the Ring camera and leaves.

No van blocking my street. No package "delivered" to a house three blocks away. No guy hurling my box over the fence like he's going for a first down.

Too much? Fine. Partner with Walmart. About 90% of Americans already live within ten miles of one. Put Walmart's warehouses together with Elon's robots and Amazon starts sweating in a way only competition can make a monopoly sweat.

Because that's the whole point. Competition makes everything better. Prices drop. Service improves. Prime stops raising its fee every time Jeff buys a new yacht.

Now, a personal note.

Watching all this, I am seriously regretting not pre-ordering a Tesla Roadster. I want a car that flies. I have wanted one since The Jetsons.

My husband's response: "I am already afraid of your driving. You are not getting a car that leaves the ground."

Rude. Accurate, but rude.

So I told him fine. I'll get my pilot's license and buy a real plane. With wings. And a tail number.

He went very quiet. I believe he's now pricing the Roadster.

Amazon, you've had a great run. But you're about to learn the same lesson Blockbuster, Kodak and the taxi cartels learned.

RE: The Prosecution of Ilhan Omar

There are two competing storylines regarding the prosecution of Ilhan Omar. One such storyline is being peddled by the Democrat/Media Complex. The other storyline is one that same media will never report. I’ll let you decide which storyline is which.

Storyline #1: An inspiring immigrant woman escaped from poverty, genocide and Communist rule in the poorest nation on Earth, made her own way in the United States and rose to national prominence as a Congresswoman. However, because she is a vocal supporter for social justice, an evil Republican President/fascist dictator has targeted her for abusive prosecution on trumped-up, nonexistent charges. Now she stands for oppressed Americans everywhere as she fights the power.

Storyline #2: The wealthy, privileged daughter of a genocidal, Communist Somali army colonel who had been trained in the Soviet Union fled to America with her father so the two could escape torture, imprisonment and execution after the father’s genocidal, Communist regime leader was overthrown. Upon arrival in America, the father and the daughter both committed immigration fraud and illegally obtained U.S. citizenship (or never obtained U.S. citizenship, the story is unclear). The daughter then rose to prominence with the backing of George Soros and his massive network of NGOs and PACs, was elected to Congress, was controlled by Soros and other Neo-Marxist groups who may well have held her illegal alien status over her head to manipulate her, while she maintained close contact with organized crime lords inside Minnesota’s Somali community. The bottom line is that it seems an illegal alien with genocidal Communist roots was illegally elected to Congress where she has spent years promoting Communism, organized crime and destruction of our Constitution and our national institutions. This reads like a Tom Clancy novel, but it’s all true and is one of the worst scandal in U.S. history. Now, finally, a President with iron will is holding her and her network of Communist thieves to account for their crimes.

You decide which storyline is true and which is false.

March 24, 1944. A British Lancaster bomber is on its way home from a raid on Berlin when a German night fighter tears into it.

The plane catches fire. The crew is ordered to bail out.

In the tail turret, 21 year old gunner Nicholas Alkemade turns around to grab his parachute.

It's on fire.

Rear gunners on the Lancaster sat in a tiny, cramped turret at the very back of the plane. There was no room for a parachute in there with them, so it was stored just inside the fuselage. Alkemade opened the door and watched his parachute burn up in front of him.

The flames were coming for him. His oxygen mask was melting. His clothes were starting to burn.

He had two choices. Stay in the plane and burn alive. Or jump.

Without a parachute. From around 18,000 feet. More than three miles up.

He later said he decided he'd rather die quickly than burn. So he turned the turret, opened the doors, and threw himself backward into the night sky.

He fell for what must have felt like forever. He said that at one point he felt strangely calm, like he was lying on a cloud, and assumed he was about to die.

Then he blacked out.

He woke up lying in deep snow beneath a stand of pine trees, staring up at the stars. The branches had broken his fall, and the snow had cushioned the landing.

He had burns, cuts, and a badly twisted knee.

That was it. No broken bones.

The first thing he reportedly did was light a cigarette.

He couldn't walk far, so he blew his whistle until Germans came and found him. And that's when his problems started.

The Germans didn't believe him. Why would they? An enemy airman with no parachute, claiming he had just fallen out of the sky. They assumed he was a spy who had sneaked in somehow and was lying about it. The Gestapo interrogated him.

Alkemade begged them to go look at the wreck of his bomber.

So they did. They found the Lancaster's remains, and the burned harness from his parachute. The clips showed it had never even been attached. Everything matched his story.

The Germans were so stunned that they gave him a written certificate confirming that he had fallen from his aircraft without a parachute and survived. His fellow prisoners in the POW camp reportedly treated him like a celebrity.

He spent the rest of the war as a prisoner at Stalag Luft III, the same camp made famous by the Great Escape.

After the war he went back to an ordinary life in England. Factory work. A family. He lived until 1987.

Three miles. No parachute. A cigarette in the snow.

My post about France went viral. Thousands of likes. Many Americans told me: "Democrats aren't socialists. America will never be France." I want to answer that seriously, step by step.

Start with a simple observation. Look at what has gotten cheaper in America over the last 25 years: TVs, phones, software, clothes, toys. Now look at what has exploded: college tuition, healthcare, childcare, housing.

What separates the two lists? The first lives in competitive markets. The second is exactly where government is most involved: subsidies, mandates, licensing, zoning, regulation.

College. Washington lends students almost unlimited money. Universities know the money will always come, so they raise tuition and hire more administrators. The student pays the bill for twenty years. More government money, higher prices.

Housing. Why can't a nurse buy a home in the city where she works? Not because of capitalism. Because of zoning laws, permits, environmental reviews, years of procedure to build a single building. The most expensive places to live in America are the places where it's hardest to build. When building is nearly illegal, prices explode.

Healthcare. The patient almost never sees the price. A third party pays, regulations limit who can compete, and costs climb year after year with no one able to say no.

So here is the trap. The problems you suffer from are not the failure of free markets. They are the places where the market has already been replaced by the state. And the solution you're being offered is more of the same.

That's the Trojan horse. It always works the same way. A real problem. A generous-sounding promise. A program that makes things worse. Then the failure of that program becomes the argument for the next one. People who lived under communism in Poland learned to recognize the lie and the mask the lie wears. The lie never presents itself as a lie. It presents itself as compassion.

In France we are at the end of that road. Debt we can never repay. Young people who can't afford a home. Our best people leaving. And every few years our cities burn. Nobody voted for this. They voted for one more generous promise, fifty years in a row.

If you're a Republican, share this with the Democrat in your life. Not to win an argument. To start a conversation.

If you're a Democrat, I'm not asking you to switch teams. I'm asking you to look at the pattern. Wherever the state took over, life became unaffordable. Don't fix the failures of government with more government.

Stay American. Ask for less state, not more.

And yes, we Italians came here to work, create businesses, dig the subways, build the buildings -- and it was indeed a struggle. A struggle a rich kid like Zohran could never know. But we didn't ask for any handouts. There was no welfare, millions of us came here knowing there was only ourselves, our work, and our community -- and we thrived. We wanted to become Americans, and our people were proud to learn the language and wave the American flag.

And when the time came, millions of Italian-Americans returned to Europe to fight World War 2, my father included. Many of them had to fight their own former countrymen in Mussolini's Italy. And they did exactly that, because they were nothing less than Americans.

Quite the opposite of the current immigrant situation championed by people like Zohran, where we invite lazy and entitled foreigners to loot the treasury without asking anything in return, as they resentfully fly the flags of their own nations -- and could never be counted on to defend America.

My mother was a widow who raised five children on her own, working in a button factory. We didn't take a penny of government assistance. We relied on ourselves. It was hard work, but we did it, and we were grateful. And today I sit on the City Council, representing the very neighborhood I grew up in.

That's what being an Italian-American in New York means. Not the communist propaganda Zohran is pushing here.

It's about hard work, independence, heritage, and most importantly, pride in being an American above all else.

October 11, 1863. Collierville, Tennessee.

William Tecumseh Sherman was riding a train east out of Memphis, headed to help rescue the Union army trapped in Chattanooga.

Eight days earlier, he had buried his nine-year-old son Willie. The boy caught typhoid visiting his father's camp and died in Memphis. The soldiers of the 13th U.S. Infantry, Sherman's old regiment, had made Willie an honorary sergeant. That same battalion was on the train with Sherman.

Around noon the train reached Collierville, a small station with a little earthwork fort. Thousands of Confederate cavalry under James Chalmers were waiting.

A Confederate officer rode up under a flag of truce and demanded surrender. Sherman refused.

The Confederates attacked from several sides. Sherman and his men held the depot, the fort, and the train cars, fighting for hours. The raiders broke into the rear of the train, looted it, and set cars on fire. They took Sherman's favorite horse, Dolly.

If they had broken into the fort, they would have captured one of the most important generals in the Union army.

They didn't. Union reinforcements arrived, and Chalmers pulled back.

Sherman reached Chattanooga. A year later he was marching to the sea.
