From the beginning, Alfred Hitchcock and Ernest Lehman planned on casting Cary Grant as the leading man in "North by Northwest" (1959) even though James Stewart showed extreme interest in the project despite his ignorance of the plot. When Stewart left to film 'Bell, Book and Candle' (1958), Hitchcock was relieved of the unpleasant task of telling him he didn't get the role.
During the filming, Cary Grant said to Hitchcock, "It's a terrible script. We've already done a third of the picture and I still can't make head or tail of it." The comment greatly amused Hitchcock because, far from being a flaw, that exactly mirrored what Grant's character was feeling as well. Grant thought the movie would be a flop right up until its premiere, where it was rapturously received.

After completing "Some Like it Hot" (1959), Billy Wilder wanted to make a film on the idea he had from around the 1940s. He wanted to make a film about the unseen character in David Lean's "Brief Encounter" (1945) who loans the apartment for the rendezvous of the main characters.
He always thought there was a funny and touching character there to explore. He wanted to work with Jack Lemmon again after "Some Like it Hot" and thought he would be perfect for this role. According to Jack Lemmon, he was offered the role by Wilder, when they were on the way to a private screening of "Some Like it Hot" in a car.

Very sad. Labour through and through, a fine mind and gifted writer, a loyal and hard working deputy to Neil at a vital time in Labour history, and a critical friend to New Labour. Sheffield Wednesday to the very end! RIP Roy

Yes Reform won the most seats
But its national equivalent vote share was 27%. That's LOWER than last year
And come a general election it will face widespread tactical voting because many voters really don't want Farage as PM
I am at a loss to understand why the government has done nothing to reform @ofcom which is not fit for purpose and has allowed Farage UK to have its own TV news channel; nothing to push back on the relentless bias and untruthfulness of most of our press; and nothing to respond to the capture of the BBC political coverage by the Gibb brigade.
Stellan Skarsgård reflects on his worldview :
"My father told me something when I was very small to instill confidence in me: 'Nobody in the world is worth more than you, but nobody’s worth less.' It is an egalitarian view that I’ve carried around in my life. That’s why I am for free schools, free universities, free health care, and free babysitting. Because our society could afford it"
"In America, people think social democracy is some kind of communism. They think capitalism is freedom. It’s not. It’s only freedom to exploit people"

Trump applying stronger sanctions on the genocidal Russian dictatorship, an active enemy of the US and its allies? No, he’s raising taxes on Americans to punish European allies over the vast irrelevancy of Greenland in order to destroy NATO to benefit Russia.
Starmer’s US policy lies in tatters. Trump is now punishing the UK and NATO allies just for doing the right thing.
Time for the PM to stand firm against the bully in the White House, and work with European and Commonwealth allies to make him back down from this reckless plan.
All this crap generated about Greenland and Venezuela is just to distract from the Epstein Files, which have still not been released. In defiance of the law, might I add.
RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES.
Republicans can’t win on their policies, so they are trying to dodge accountability by rewriting the rules. These lawmakers are going out of their way to silence the will of the people and deliberately undermine our democracy.
Nearly half the British public seems to think that illegal migrants outnumber those here legally. In fact legal migration outnumbers illegal migration by at least 10 to 1.
