WE DIDI IT!
In a major BDS win for human rights activists against financial institutions complicit in Israel’s 76-year-old regime of settler colonialism, apartheid and now genocide, French multinational insurer @AXA was forced to sell its investments in all major Israeli banks.
These banks are considered the backbone of Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise on occupied Palestinian stolen lands. The global “Stop AXA Assistance to Israeli Apartheid” campaign targeted AXA’s investment in Israeli banks and Elbit Systems for their complicity in Israel’s illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, which constitute war crimes under international law, and for other grave violations of Palestinian human rights. The company faced divestment pressure, reputational damage and a consumer boycott campaign.
This is also your win. You were one of thousands to call for #AXADivest and #BoycottAXA, ending your contract with the brand. You protested outside AXA offices and organized disruptive creative actions at every AXA shareholders’ meeting. You sent thousands of tweets, emails and letters to AXA CEOs, calling out AXA’s hypocrisy. As Israel’s live streamed genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza continues, it is hard to celebrate anything other than an end to the genocide and the beginning of justice.
AXA is not off the hook, though. Amidst Israel’s live streamed genocide in Gaza against 2.3 million Palestinians, the coalition will continue to monitor AXA’s investments to make sure it is not complicit in the ongoing genocide. Watch this space!
As Edinburgh Council workers, our pensions continue to fund companies supplying Israel with arms, equipment and infrastructure. It’s time for the LPF to divest from companies complicit in genocide in Gaza. Read about it here: https://t.co/lWmHEJK7wl
@TimetoDivestEdi@scottishpsc
Yesterday we rallied with @TimetoDivestEdi to call on the Lothian Pension Fund to divest from companies providing arms and equipment for Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza.
Your money should not be funding the apparatus of mass murder. Act now at https://t.co/FqeqEaV7Os
Today, Edinburgh Council:
🇵🇸 Recognised the state of #Palestine
🇵🇸 Supported an arms embargo
🇵🇸 Agreed resources to welcome Palestinians to Edinburgh and help teachers talk about the issue
🇵🇸 Commited to host a roundtable mtg for orgs to talk about practical solidarity actions
We are proud to say that we are officially affiliated to @TimetoDivestEdi. It is essential that we are organised in our communities to make those in power boycott, divest and sanction.
🚨 Major BDS Victory – Anti-Boycott Bill defeated
We are delighted to announce the government’s toxic anti-boycott bill has been defeated. They tried to shut down campaigns against Israel’s violations of Palestinian rights. They failed. Our right to boycott campaign has won!
With today's prorogation of Parliament, the govt appears finally to have abandoned its 'Anti-Boycott Bill', a dreadful legislative attempt to silence Israel's critics.
ICJP regret only that it is the election, rather than sensible lawmaking, that has seen the end of this Bill.
Really good to chat with campaigners from @TimetoDivestEdi before Full Council today - thank you for being here and calling for Lothian Pension Fund to #divest from arms companies, currently complicit in the genocide in Palestine 🇵🇸
