A lot of people seem upset about Wakefield’s induction to the Hall of Pretty Good, but I want to make it known that I got full permission from his family to put him up for vote and they even interacted with the post on Instagram by commenting and putting it on their stories. Here’s the comment I put on Instagram the day of his vote.

Wakefield came up on the wheel a while ago, and I was unsure if it would be respectful to put him up for a vote. This page can be silly at times with the jokes and memes, and the last thing I wanted to do was disrespect the amazing man and great ballplayer that Tim Wakefield was. After giving it a lot of thought, I reached out to a direct family member of Wakefield’s and was given permission to put him up for a vote.

These vote posts bring in a lot of new eyes on the page, and the last thing I want is for somebody unfamiliar with this account to think we’re disrespecting Tim Wakefield’s legacy. Once I received permission, I felt it was appropriate to put him up for a vote and hopefully give Red Sox fans and other baseball fans a chance to honor a wonderful person like him.

So if anyone is unfamiliar with the page or how this voting goes, please know that it’s done out of genuine appreciation for the mark these types of guys left on the game. I love baseball, and it’s done a lot to help make my life better, and the last thing I would ever want to do is disrespect this amazing sport and the players who spent their whole careers putting in the work to become successful.

I hope this vote serves as an enjoyable space to reminisce and smile about all the memories that Tim Wakefield brought us.

BREAKING: Major League Baseball will use the Automated Ball-Strike Challenge System (ABS) during the entire 2026 season

ABS CHALLENGE RULES:

- Each team will get two challenges and can keep them if they're successful

- Challenges can only be initiated by a pitcher, catcher, or batter, and the request must come right after the pitch

- To signal a challenge, the pitcher, catcher, or batter will tap his hat or helmet to let the umpire know

- No help from the dugout or other players on the field is allowed

- In each extra inning, a team will be awarded a challenge if it has none remaining entering the inning

The ABS Challenge System powered by T-Mobile 5G network uses cameras set up around the perimeter of the field to track the location of each pitch and a graphic on the scoreboard shows the result of the challenge
