"Married woman" in Deut 22:22 translates a phrase that uses the verb ba’al with the noun ba’al, terms that connote "own" and "lord."

The phrase means "owned by a lord" or "lorded by a lord" or, perhaps, "lady to a lord."

Deut 22 defines a married woman as one who has a lord. A man owns her (and she him, 1 Cor 7:4).

Biblically, marital lordship and ownership are very good things. Every Christian is a member of a bridal body with a heavenly Lord.

Every Christian confesses, “I am not my own. I belong to another, bought with a price.” Jesus says to His Bride, “I am yours, you are mine.”

When a woman is "lorded by a lord," she images the glorious Bride of the Son.
