👋 My name is @rachelelizahunt. I started this collective storytelling project, sharing small stories of small, significant kindnesses on the 1 year anniversary of my brother's burial from an overdose. It was a conscious way to look for goodness. Hope scrollers are welcome here.
Minnesota National Guard was asked why they’re handing out coffee, donuts, and hot chocolate to protesters.
Answer: “It’s a demonstration of safety and security. We’re here to help.”
That’s how you de-escalate.
Not masks. Not threats. Not bullets.
doing a repetitive hand craft while listening to an audiobook (getting told a story) over the sound of a crackling fire activates my bronze age brain. I enter a flow state
Of late I’ve developed the habit of pretending I’m a medieval peasant attempting to survive winter & it’s made my life a million times more joyful. I take walks in the hills & woods, fall asleep to audiobooks, I’m grateful not to die of plague. We were made for a simpler life.
if you are dazzled by the concept of someone figuring out how to put out water and coffee for a crowd, that is not a sign that your opposition is professionally bankrolled, it is a sign that you have never considered others' needs or been part of a community in your life
when i was in third grade, our principal promised to kiss a pig if we met the summer reading goal. we absolutely did, and by that fall they brought a massive pig into the gym, told us his name was winston, and the principal got on her knees and kissed his snout. then we all waited in line to pet him. starting to think this might be an original experience.
When I was in 2nd grade, our principal, Mr. Davis, said he would spend a day on the roof of the school if we reached our reading goal.
We did, & I can still remember him sitting on the roof, waving to us. At lunch, we all ate sandwiches together (he was still on the roof).😆
Forever glad I studied Spanish, French and English as a child in Italy. Being able to communicate with people from other parts of the world opens your mind like few other things. If you want to study a foreign language, I promise you the effort is 100% worth it.
