Statue of Leif Erikson in front of the Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavik, Iceland. The statue was gifted to Iceland by the US government in 1930 to mark the 1000th anniversary of the Icelandic Parliament.

Construction of the Hallgrímskirkja began in 1945, and concluded in 1986.

In August 2026 Iceland held a referendum on whether to recommence discussions on joining the EU, apparently deciding against renewing the talks.

View of Whitby from St. Mary’s Churchyard.

On Yorkshire’s coast, Whitby Abbey was a centre of early English Christianity. Captain Cook trained in Whitby. Today it is a popular tourist destination. Bram Stoker’s 1890 visit inspired Whitby’s role as a backdrop for Dracula’s landing in England.

Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.

Located on Tenerife’s north coast in the Orotava Valley, it was once a fishing hamlet.

However, after lava buried Garachico in 1706, it became the island’s main port.

Later British travellers established it as Tenerife’s first holiday resort.

RIP King Harald of Norway.

Only had one trip to Norway. Beautiful scenery, fascinating history and architecture, and otherwise from the perspective of a visiting tourist seemed to be a well run, tranquil and prosperous place.

Milk churns at Goathland, in the North York Moors National Park, North Yorkshire, #England. The historic station may be best known for featuring in the original #harrypotter movie.

Colman’s Mustard was founded by Jeremiah Colman in Norfolk in 1814, today part of Unilever, soon to be McCormick.

Milk churns were the traditional method of transporting milk from farms. They were finally officially phased out in 1979.
