Right-hander Ralph Buxton was born in Weyburn, Sask., on this date in 1914.

When he entered the game in relief for the Philadelphia A's against the Boston Red Sox on Sept. 11, 1938, he became the first player born in Saskatchewan to play in the majors.

He died in 1988.
