The EU has started enforcing new AI transparency rules.

From August 2, companies must clearly tell people when they’re interacting with AI or when realistic images, videos, audio, or some text have been created or changed using AI.

Companies that break the rules could face fines of up to €15 million or 3% of their global annual revenue.
Some AI systems already on the market before the new rules took effect have until December 2, 2026 to meet certain labeling requirements.

Samsung says the global memory shortage is expected to get even worse in 2027 and continue into 2028.

During its earnings call, Samsung Executive Vice President Kim Jaejune said, “Based on the demand we have secured for 2027, the supply-demand gap is expected to widen further compared to this year.”

He also said “tight supply conditions are expected to continue through 2028,” as more customers sign long-term agreements to secure future memory supply.

Reddit’s stock collapsed 23% after the company released its latest earnings.

The company reported a strong quarter, with $586.4 million in revenue (up 78% year over year) and $89 million in profit, beating Wall Street’s expectations.

Despite the strong results, investors were worried about slowing user growth and the growing impact of AI search tools.

Reddit said AI is changing how people find content online, making traffic from search engines more unpredictable.

Path of Exile 2 developers fixed a major NVIDIA bug by shipping an entire PC to the company.

Grinding Gear Games spent about a year and a half tracking a bug that caused crashes and heavy stuttering for some NVIDIA GPU users in Path of Exile 2.

The issue was hard to reproduce, so the studio shipped its entire test PC setup to NVIDIA, including the monitor, keyboard and mouse.

About a month later, NVIDIA engineers reproduced the bug and developed a fix.

Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI.

Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.

Disney+ has temporarily removed 4K UHD and HDR10 streaming in several European countries.

“Following a recent court ruling affecting the technology we use to deliver 4K UHD and HDR, we have temporarily removed support for 4K UHD and HDR on Disney+. We are disappointed and share our customers’ frustration. We are working hard to restore support as quickly as possible.”

For now, affected users are limited to 1080p SDR.

If you try to play explicit songs or other age-restricted content, Spotify may pause playback until you verify your age.

Netflix is being sued for $105 million after a hard drive containing the unreleased Nicolas Cage movie was reportedly stolen from one of its offices.

The filmmakers claim Netflix failed to protect the movie and delayed notifying them, putting the film’s release at risk.

Netflix investigated the theft and is monitoring piracy sites for potential leaks.

Microsoft is adding a new anti-piracy measure that uses TPM (Trusted Platform Module) chips to better protect Windows activation.

Starting in August 2026, companies activating Windows through Microsoft’s Key Management Service (KMS) will need TPM-based verification.
This makes it much harder to create fake KMS servers that activate pirated copies of Windows.

This change targets businesses using volume licenses, not regular home users. Personal PC activations remain unchanged.

A buyer in Russia received a 2-liter bottle of water instead of a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 Ti after purchasing the GPU for around 90,000 rubles ($1,125).

The buyer opened the package at the retailer’s pickup point while recording the entire unboxing.
The box appeared factory sealed, with the retail wrapping and serial number label. Once opened, there was no graphics card inside just a large water bottle

Japanese authorities have reportedly made the country’s first arrest of a major “first uploader” on Nyaa, one of the largest torrent indexes for anime and other Japanese media.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of uploading the NHK drama Midnight Taxi to Nyaa, making it available for download via BitTorrent. Kyoto Prefectural Police investigated with support from the anti-piracy group CODA.

Unlike previous cases focused on downloaders or smaller distributors, this targeted the person accused of first uploading the copyrighted content.
Authorities believe stopping original uploaders has a greater impact on piracy networks.
