Notable that Bob Myers explicitly mentioned the non-taxpayer mid-level exception as a tool at the Sixers' disposal this summer. That, of course, is the bigger of the 2 MLE options and usually goes hand-in-hand with the bi-annual exception. Suggests the Sixers will spend relatively significant money this summer.
Bob Myers gave a lengthy response when I asked why he saw Mike Gansey as the right candidate for this job. Talked about his scouting background, leadership ability, experience as a G League GM and rave reviews from folks around the league.
#Phillies Cristopher Sánchez has a 1.57 ERA in 21 starts since Aug. 30, 2025, including postseason. He is averaging 19.7 outs-per-start during that stretch.
Jameer Nelson: "To do it for the home team gives me goosebumps."
"Growing up in Chester and understanding what this team means to the city, I can help everyone in the building understand that."
Mike Gansey on Maxey, VJ timeline vs. Jo, PG: “I don't look at it as a timeline. I just look at like we have those four and we got to maximize those 4. Obviously, VJ and Tyrese are younger, but Paul and Joel can still play at a high level. We were 24-14 when Joel played.” #Sixers
One of the bigger fears about this Sixers front office transition was the head coach not being aligned as GM's typically like to hire their own guy
Mike Gansey has done a nice job shutting this down and has been extremely complimentary of Nick Nurse. Says they will be attached at the hip and referenced him playing for Nurse at the D-League level back in the day
Mike Gansey when asked about his overall roster-building strategy-
"I want guys that want to be in Philly. Guys that can fit around the players are have currently under contract... I want fountains not drains. I want guys with high character, guys with high work ethics, and guys that want to be in Philadelphia."
I liked what Mike Gansey had to say. He is focused on the right things: adding depth, establishing cohesion in the organization, and simply creating a blue-collar, family-based culture.
Excited to see what he and the front office has in store.
Mike Gansey on his draft philosophy:
“The group here has drafted well. I’m exited to learn from them. At pick 22 you want to get a combination of best player available but also the best fit for the roster.”
Gansey adds that he ran the draft stuff in Cleveland.
Mike Gansey said he’s had a lot of good conversations with Joel Embiid. Said Embiid is part of the group going forward and they have to make sure they keep their guys on the court.
Gansey, on working with Bob Myers: "I'm the day-to-day president of basketball operations...it's just like every front office. [Myers] is an extension of ownership, essentially. We're going to be in alignment throughout the organization...Having Bob is what I call a cheat code."
Mike Gansey on his decision-making around the roster, draft picks, etc:
“We’re going to be creative, we’re going to be aggressive, & we’re going to try to make some moves to help us win.”
Mike Gansey says having Jameer Nelson as a pat of this front office puzzle was a key for him coming to Philadelphia- "That was a sticking point talking to Josh and Bob, he was someone I really really wanted throughout the process"
Talked about going 0-2 against Jameer in college and that it is a win to have him on his side
