@Romy_Holland My grandmother (in her 80s) retells the same stories but I think she genuinely doesn't remember telling them before. She doesn't have dementia or anything just normal kinda gradually deteriorating memory.
@RichardHanania I remember reading a paper (can't find it now sigh) that proposed this theory: humans evolved a drive to dispose of bodies in ways that denied them to predators. This made groups of humans a less attractive target: even if you injure one the others won't let you eat it.
@robinhanson Your argument is very abstract. Can you walk through one or more of the concrete examples in dynomite's post? I found those more convincing than your equations.
@robinhanson Pretending or "deciding" to like high-status things is what lower-status social climbers do. High-status people like these things "naturally".
I wanna see a 3d animated movie in the big eyed, pretty, vaguely jelly style of Encanto or Frozen, except it's a dark r-rated drama full of bloody battles and sex scenes
Happy new year!
Today, a mini-tweetstorm of some of the things I've said and written over the past decade, and what I think about those subjects today.
One of the biggest surprises of my adult life is how unethical reporters are. In movies they're always the good guys. Everyone in tech knows stories like this.
the government spent 7 trillion dollars last year. we're 29 trillion in debt. nothing is better. but we demand our CEOs fix the world, as a side project, with a few billion. i've been wondering: is this bc they’re the only example we have of leaders who’ve actually done anything?
People often describe me as 'extremely weird', 'mentally atypical,' 'like an alien studying how humans work,' but I genuinely feel so normal from the inside. I feel like this is the obvious, default way to be and I'm continually confused why everyone else is so different from me.
1/ It's been about a year since my mission-focused blog post. It wasn't easy to go through at the time, but looking back, it turned out to be one of the most positive changes I've made at Coinbase, and I'd recommend it to others. https://t.co/FudJSuaumB
im continually pretty shocked at how much 'housing is expensive' discourse is dominated by anything other than "it's usually *illegal* to build more housing"
