@theheraldsun You think $600 a week rent is expensive? Try buying the same $650k unit.
With a 20% deposit, the mortgage is about $719 a week.
Add rates, insurance, OC fees, maintenance etc. and you’re around $850 a week.
And the capital gain is snail’s pace

@newscomauHQ Jacinta Allen: “I’m a different person. I’m not Daniel Andrews.”- The Guardian, December 2023. It would be unfair to treat the rest of Victorian Labor as mere bystanders in the state becoming a basket case. New leader, same path.
@DHughesy The Vic Government have been offering lawyers $80k p.a. for full-time work, but paid ex cons with no skills or experience $300k to build a road for their first job. That doesn’t pass any pub test.
@SkyNewsAust Most home sales in my city are private sales these days. Nobody does auctions anymore. Are auction clearance rates less relevant for these purposes now, and should other data be considered?
@7NewsMelbourne Rents and house prices will go up as investors take steps to reduce the impact, they will hold instead of sell, housing will become more unaffordable, inflation will rise, so then cost of living will increase and wages will need to go up….and round and round we go.
@gizmosudo@theheraldsun About 60,000 left Melbourne during Covid, but both before and after Covid Melbourne has had more growth than Sydney every year.
@SBSNews 30 years ago I also had to borrow half my mortgage deposit off my parents too. This problem is not new.
Buying a home includes apartments and outer edge suburban houses. Most people seem to want their first house in an expensive inner suburb. Get real.
