There is actually a grain of truth to this claim.

Historically (since the 1850s), there have been more hurricane landfalls in the continental United States during Democratic presidential administrations than during Republican.

🔴 GOP historc avg: 6.4 per 4-year term

These means are time-weighted to account for both incomplete terms and presidents who served more than one term. That is, I did not want to treat FDR's 12 years and one month in office equal to James Garfield's six months. The data must be normalized in order to get a fair comparison.

So, yes, more hurricanes, on average, make landfall in the U.S. during Democratic administrations, but not by all that much. It's also worth noting this statistical relationship actually breaks down and even reverses in modern post-Carter years; Republican presidential administrations have received more.
