Exactly this. There's so much to discuss, but fundamentally they've needlessly destroyed their own reputation. This will follow them around for years; it's part of their story now. If Cov did this, I'd be apoplectic.
The most incredible thing about Southampton and spygate is that, still, so much energy has gone into "err this is unfair" rather than apologising to fans, arranging refunds and going cap in hand to to beg them to stick with the club. They have torched their entire reputation.
“Owner Doug King’s choice is very simple - either spend £100m like Sunderland or nothing like Burnley. The outcome would likely be the same as it is for those two teams this season,” Keys said.
Burnley summer 2025/26 summer transfer spend (approx): £80m
As a yo-yo club, Burnley’s squad was (on paper) better prepared for the Premier League than Sunderland, who had only recently come up from League One.
In hindsight Burnley probably overestimated how good their squad was, but always worth interrogating these simplistic narratives
Obviously love this, but also keep thinking if you told me in 2001 it would be a TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR wait to return to the PL, I would’ve been beyond devastated.
Worst case scenario for me back then would’ve been 2, maybe 3 years in the 2nd tier?
It’s truly a mad story.

@mikeseat Yep. It really felt at times like a phoenix club was the only way to save and reclaim our club. When Wasps bought the Ricoh I really felt like we were consigned to L1/L2 (or worse) for a generation or more. I’m still pinching myself that we are where we are.
@mikeseat 100%. I don’t think my connection to the club would be anywhere near as strong. It helps that I know the ending, because the lows were grim and it wasn’t inevitable that we’d ever bounce back.
@TheSkyBlueHub@Coventry_PUSB@TheScottKeene Think he’s got potential to be #1 but it’s a big ask to step up to the PL after a year out. He’s only played 30 games in the Championship. I could see logic in loaning him out and bringing in another more experienced backup keeper
Seeing a lot of chat about who stays/goes next season and I can’t believe how many fans are willing to cut Ben Wilson loose.
You have a ready-made 3rd-choice keeper who knows and loves the club and is by all accounts great in the dressing room. Of course he stays.

We’re really gonna waste time and energy recruiting an equivalent 30+ keeper who’ll be happy to benchwarm but has no connection to Cov or the current squad?! You have to carry some of that momentum and mentality with you.
In all the excitement you almost forget that we’ve only owned the CBS for 8 months. Last summer Doug King was still talking about building a new stadium.
The turnaround in our fortunes is a joke.

Love how this narrative that we were on the verge of relegation when Lampard took over is exaggerated more each time it’s repeated.
We were 9 points off the play offs 😂

Frank Lampard took over Coventry on the verge of being relegated to league one. Transformd them, won the Skybet championship, brought them to premier league after 20+ years.
Better than what Michael Cashew is currently doing with old glory FC.
@CCFCAnalysis I mean, we’re getting into oddly granular detail here but he was appointed on 24/11. Literally none of this matters now though and, as you said, the point remains!
