Loved seeing the tree swallows roost over the reeds on the #CT River. Such a unique fall event here in the state. I had never seen so many boats out there with spectators (who were very respectful of this natural phenomenon). 💙 #tourism#travel#birds#birding
@charlotte_leib eBird is a good tool for that. I knew pipits didn't nest there but it was easy enough to check the Newark vicinity on eBird. The only pipits recorded there were in the fall. ... I might need to try Blue Sky. I think I created an account but then didn't bother with it.
@charlotte_leib Juvenile American Robin. You might find an American Pipit in the Jersey marshes in fall but they don't nest there so you wouldn't see a juvenile there.

I am literally right now editing a piece for @CTAudubon's 2024 CT State of the Birds report about bluebirds and pesticides when a family of bluebirds, including several still with spotted breasts, drops from the trees to the grass to pluck caterpillars and grasshoppers.

I left this off my resume: June 1 through mid August 1974, I worked at the Milne Library at Oneonta State (for $1.90 an hour). (I had just flunked out and spent way more time working there than studying there.)

@Revkin@billmckibben@PaceUniversity An inexplicable change. He was always completely convinced he was right (which was great if you were a reporter) but he was never nutty about it. Sad and baffling.
The sound of an owl family whistling/wheezing to each other is thrilling. I've heard it twice this summer, once when 3 or 4 interrupted our dinner on the terrace.
