The Bigs Prep Game of the Week!

@_MP_Football 22 King 13 FINAL

#3 WR Kenneth Sims - 13 yd TD run
#1 QB Ronald Smith Jr. - 6yd TD run
#4 RB Will Smith Jr. - 2 yd TD run

It was a physical 48 minutes with emotions running high and the CPL Red Star championship on the line. In the end, Morgan Park won the battle of the conference unbeatens, defeating the #2 King Jaguars 22-13 to maintain its hold on the #1 spot.

King made things interesting right after halftime when Herman Yancey broke loose for a 68 yd TD, cutting MP's lead to 16-13. The Jaguars had opportunities to complete the comeback late, but the Mustangs' defense delivered when it mattered most.

Morgan Park finally put the game away late in the 4th Q when Will Smith Jr. scored from two yards out, sealing the W and the Red Star championship.

The win moves the Mustangs to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play, setting up a showdown with the Kenwood Broncos for the city championship next weekend. Kenwood enters the matchup 6-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

King falls to 6-2 and now awaits it's state playoff matchup.

The Bigs Prep Game of the Week!

Goode STEM 28 #5 Perspectives 18

#3 RB/CB Aedan Cleveland - 10 yd TD run
#20 RB/DB Gabriel Crosby Chambers - 4 yd TD run
#1 QB/DB Jordan Boston - 1 yd TD run
#2 WR/DB Kaleb Bryant - 23 yd TD run
Head coach Terrance McClarn

Goode STEM head coach Terrance McClarn stuck to the ground and pound game plan and his offensive line did the dirty work. Four rushing TDs and a couple of key defensive stops down the stretch led the Knights to a 28-18 win over fifth ranked Perspectives - spoiling their senior day. It was their first win over Perspectives in McClarn's 7 year tenure as head coach.

"It's a great win. I know a lot of guys over there so it's a big win. Last week I hurt my calf in the game so today I was just warming it up seeing if I could fight through it. I could so I just fought through it and kept going." - Jordan Boston on the win and battling a calf injury

Goode STEM moves to 5-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. They will face #4 CHSAS for the conference championship Thursday 10/8.

"It's a big game and I know a lot of guys over there too so we're gonna fight. It's gonna be a great game," Boston said.

Perspectives falls to 5-2 and will play Brooks on 10/8.

#5 Perspectives has battled back from a 16-0 deficit with 12 unanswered...Goode STEM takes a 16-12 lead into the half. #TheBigsPrepGameOfTheWeek

[Rep.Kam Buckner ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ @RepKamBuckner]

I’ve been made aware that @CPLAthletics officials for fall sports have not been paid for weeks for work already completed, and are declining additional assignments until they are paid. This has already resulted in canceled games, with more potentially at risk this week and into next week.

This is unacceptable.

I’ve been in contact with officials/referees and have reached out to CPS Sports Administration, the Board Prez and the CEO to get this rectified ASAP.

These games are not “just extracurriculars.” They are part of the school experience, they keep our young people engaged and connected, and at this point in the season, cancellations can cost student-athletes critical opportunities to be seen by college recruiters and compete for scholarships.

This impacts football, girls flag football, volleyball and other fall sports at multiple levels. Schools are spending money on buses, staffing and other game-day costs only to have games canceled at the last minute. Those costs add up.

There are also serious questions about whether these payment delays may implicate Illinois’ Local Government Prompt Payment Act.

The officials deserve to be paid. Our kids deserve to play. CPS needs to get this fixed.

I thought the hardest part about stepping away from covering the Bulls and Sky would be losing access.

I was wrong.
