Edited by @MichaelLCrick, former Newsnight political editor. Lifting the secrecy of selections, some of most important events in the political process.
🔵PENDLE & CLITHEROE: Andrew Stephenson, MP here 2010-24, looks set to apply for the seat again & should get necessary 2/3 executive council vote to ensure no contest. Stephenson was PPS to four PMs & held several ministerial jobs but lost to Lab in 2024 by 902 votes (1.9%).
🔵HENLEY & THAME: Virginia Crosbie, who was Conservative MP for Ynys Mon, 2019-24, has apparently moved to Henley, which is now Lib Dem. I hear she plans to run for the Conservative selection, though the contest is unlikely to start for many months.
Exclusive: Tory veteran Andrew Boff is to try once again to be the party's candidate in the London Mayoral race. He has now run in every single campaign since City Hall was founded.

🔵 REDDITCH: I'm told the picture includes:
Matt Dormer
Clare Golby
Michael Gray
Seb James
Brett McKenna
Jamie Mulhall
Michael Prendegast
Sanjoy Sen
Are those names correct, and have they all applied?
🔵 REDDITCH: this seat is in first tranche of Conservative selections currently in process. I'm told several contenders are in this campaigning picture yesterday.

🔵CHELSEA & FULHAM: I am told that this is the 8-strong longlist for the Conservative selection:
+ Tom Bennett
+ Danielle Dunfield-Prayero
+ Aarti Joshi
+ Cem Kemahli
+ Jeremy Maddocks
+ Neil Mahapatra
+ Adrian Pascu-Tulbure
+ Seb Payne.
🔵RIBBLE VALLEY: Update. Nigel Evans applied to be the candidate only yesterday. Ribble Valley Cons Assoc selection cttee will now meet this coming Weds evening, & Evans requires 2/3rds approval. Then it goes to executive council of association this coming Thursday where he needs 50% plus one. Failing those hurdles, on Fri the selection will again be opened to other contenders.
🔵RIBBLE VALLEY: I'm told there'll be a special meeting of the local Cons association executive next Weds, 7 Oct, to decide whether to readopt Nigel Evans as candidate unopposed (he lost the seat in 2024). That need 2/3rds majority. If that's not reached the selection will be reopen & Evans will face challenges from Mike Newton & others.
Penny Mordaunt confirms she’s been approved as a Conservative candidate.
She says: “I’m waiting to see what seats I can go for. But I have a full pass from the candidates committee.”

🔵 MAIDSTONE & MALLING: also a bit surprising Louise Brice isn't listed. She's national chairman of Conservative Women's Organisation, lives locally, & Maidstone councillor, 2015-23. Brice tried for several seats last time & fought Lewisham East in 2024. Maybe didn't apply.
🔵 MAIDSTONE & MALLING: also in the running, following sifting, is Jonathan Hulley, who fought Twickenham in 2024, & man called "Begby" or some such. So it looks like all-male shortlist of about six: Begby, Hulley, Matt Boughton, Mario Creatura, Neil Mahapatra & David Thompson.
🔵 MAIDSTONE & MALLING: two more contenders, I hear, are Matt Boughton, the leader of Tonbridge and Malling borough council; & Mario Creatura, former Downing Street special adviser under Theresa May, who fought Croydon Central, 2019.
@EllenFWalker@sabele26@britishmuseum Beggars belief that the supposedly world class @britishmuseum hadn’t done its homework re space, time management and numbers before tickets went on sale. I really hope they have a new date you can both make. Ignore the petty sniping here, your love of history and culture matters!
@andrewsanger@britishmuseum Overselling tickets is the British Museum's fault. I understand that an exhibition as popular as this must be a logistical nightmare but if so, why cram in as many tickets as possible to maximise profit at the expense of people who have spent hundreds to come here? Not cricket.
@britishmuseum Yeah, I know realistically a museum can't reimburse anything other than the tickets yada yada look could you let me be mad and sad please my inner child has had a rough day of it 🤣
@britishmuseum To the people saying "just go to France."
Not all of us have the time and money. Either way, it's shoddy organising and if there was a private event happening, they shouldn't have allowed for people to book tickets that clashed with it.
@britishmuseum Wanna also give a shout out to the ticket staff who must have had an awful time handing out these notices and taking flack from disgruntled customers, because ultimately it wasn't their fault. This is the responsibility of upper management who haven't organised this properly.
@britishmuseum In all seriousness there were people queueing who had travelled all the way from the US. We were in London anyway for my graduation but imagine spending all that travel money only to have this happen. The museum should be reimbursing more than just the tickets.

🔵 MAIDSTONE & MALLING: the selection is now under way to replace Helen Grant who has announced she'll stand down at the next election. Two of the main contenders, it seems, are David Thompson, the chair of the local Conservative association; and Neil Mahapatra, who fought Tunbridge Wells in 2024. Please DM me if you know more.
