Some thoughts on this piece, which marries delusion and dishonesty in every paragraph.
1. Saturated with low self-esteem. Feels looked down on so easily - to the point of paranoia.
2. If you care so much about the people of Africa probably best not to steal from them. Tends to undermine your credibility a little.
3. Effectively equates Hamas with Ukraine. Bizarre.
4. Misrepresents Tony Leon’s ideological associations, which do not include MAGA or the ethno-nationalist right, anywhere.
5. Dishonestly pretends not to know what Putin’s anti-fascism” agenda is really about.
6. Dishonestly suggests Leon supports every action of the Israeli government, which is demonstrably untrue.
I could go on, but will leave it there.

Well, this piece seems to be holding up. “The most conventional thing Donald Trump has done in his entire life has been to go to war in the Middle East. And he has gone about this war in an entirely familiar way. Like president after president since 1950, he has found it easy to get into a war, harder to get out. Like president after president since 1969, he has hoped that airpower and/or economic sanctions would avoid the risks of having boots on the ground. The classic pattern of U.S. interventions is nearly always 'Fire, Aim, Ready.' The classic pattern of American diplomacy is nearly always to regard talking and fighting as alternatives to one another, rather than complements.”
Complete chaos at #JNB#ORTIA international departures tonight with #ACSA’s new ‘security’ system. International passengers queuing round the block while new security scanners simply remain unused. What an indictment of an international airport and airport ‘management’.

Iran has just been nominated to preside over the UN Committee for the protection of women's rights, human rights, and the prevention of terrorism.
YES, IRAN. And it was supported by the United Kingdom, Spain, and France.
This is not a joke. It's real.

This week in South Africa: Parliament’s newly formed Phala Phala impeachment committee begins its work amid renewed scrutiny of executive accountability, while key economic indicators, including manufacturing activity, vehicle sales, fuel prices, business confidence and electricity production, provide a fresh snapshot of pressure points across the economy. Oversight of municipal governance also sharpens as SCOPA reviews Johannesburg’s deteriorating financial position, while South Africa hosts Kenyan President William Ruto for a state visit focused on trade, investment and regional economic cooperation. Against this backdrop, investors and policymakers will be watching closely for signals on reform momentum, fiscal stability and broader business confidence.

The Islamic Republic has killed more protesters in two weeks than died in 13 months of the 1979 revolution.
They murdered more in a week than were killed in forty years of the Shah's reign.
Fascinating from Simon Sebag Montefiore on where things are now - and what it will take for the ayatollahs to fall...
When the DA says every vote counts, we mean it.
In Emfuleni, just 8 votes secured a DA councillor.
In uMngeni, 42 votes secured a DA mayor.
A handful of votes can change the direction of an entire community. Every vote matters.

When the lights stay on everywhere else
South Africa may have stabilised load-shedding nationally, but Johannesburg’s electricity crisis is increasingly playing out at municipal level through failing substations, ageing infrastructure and chronic outages. The economic costs remain significant — even if they are now easier to ignore.

@MaxduPreez Leaving aside the US, Cuba is a 67 year old dictatorship very brutal in stamping out dissenters and part of its demise has been pursuit of disastrous economic policies that have impoverished its people. Many of the best Cubans fled the island for these two reasons.
It's hard to argue with this from Tony Blair:
"Governments which succeed don't start with a personality contest. Or a political question - as in how do we "save the country" from Reform. They start with an idea, a project, a governing purpose"
South Africa’s National Development Plan 2030 promised to increase economic growth and significantly reduce unemployment. The inverse happened.

In his 5000+ word essay Tony Blair calls Andy Burnham, among other things, “delusional” and “dangerous.” Extraordinary intervention here: https://t.co/nxxB7ZzPuC
