Nursing, physical therapy, & occupational therapy are INDEED professional degrees. In fact, many PT’s and OT’s have doctorates. For the Dept of Education to remove this designation is disrespectful to some of the most important members of the healthcare community.
Sad to see the violence today in Utah & Colorado. Too much hate & too many people with guns who shouldn’t have. We all deserve a life free of violence & senseless loss. Please monitor what your kids see on social media, as images are traumatizing. Take care of each other, friends
RFK Jr is overseeing a complete dismantling of government supported research into chronic and acute diseases. It’s frightening what the ramifications will be down the line for us Gen X’ers and our children. https://t.co/KDMFIcEpnw
I am all for holistic health and believe a true integrative approach to health/medicine is the best way. That said, the damage that RFK Jr is creating by demonizing physicians, pharmaceuticals (incl. vaccines),& traditional healthcare is completely unprecedented and scary.
This morning I was prepping for a DIEP flap when an orthopedic surgeon sat down beside me and said, "You're not gonna believe what United just did."
His patient had waited six months just to see him. He confirmed she needed a hip replacement and she was a good candidate. He submitted everything—her imaging, her full records, all the evidence. But United denied the case… because he didn’t include the radiographic findings in the body of his note.
Not because she didn’t need the surgery. Not because the data wasn’t there. But because of a formatting technicality.
Now she has to wait again, just long enough to age out of the plan and onto Medicare.
It makes you wonder doesn’t it? How many decisions like this are about care? And how many are about cost?

The insurance company denied a stay for a surgery without even knowing what the surgery IS.
My patient and I are planning a DIEP flap breast reconstruction and I want her to stay inpatient for monitoring for more than 23 hours. I am an expert in microsurgery and have done this for over a decade. The insurance company denied the preauthorization for surgery saying that they would approve outpatient surgery, but not an inpatient stay. That’s not safe for this patient and this surgery.
I requested a peer to peer conversation to explain to a doctor at the insurance company why an inpatient stay is needed for this patient.
The call came 1 hour and 15 minutes late, in the middle of my operative day.
And the doctor who was supposed to be my peer was not a surgeon.
And the doctor didn’t even know what a DIEP flap is.
So…that’s where we are.

Volodymyr Zelensky is NOT a dictator.
Vladimir Putin IS a dictator.
Zelensky didn’t start the war in Ukraine.
Putin did.
Hope this clarifies things for anyone who is confused.
On January 7th, 2025 I shared a video, after I was asked to call UnitedHealthcare from the operating room to answer administrative questions about the patient who was having surgery to treat breast cancer. Despite my efforts, they denied her stay.
UnitedHealthcare didn’t stop at calling me during surgery. Now, they’ve sent me a legal threat—and even worse? They ended up denying my cancer patient’s hospital stay. Exactly what I was afraid would happen.
Staying overnight after major surgery isn’t optional—it’s medically necessary. But UnitedHealthcare decided they know better than the doctors caring for the patient.
When they called me while I was operating, I knew that if I didn’t step out and respond immediately, they might deny her stay—leaving her with a massive bill. So, with another surgeon in the OR, I scrubbed out and called them back. But after all of that? They denied her stay anyway.
And instead of fixing their broken system, they sent me a legal threat for speaking out.
I’m sharing their response in full, letting their words speak for themselves.
Let me be clear: I stand by everything I said. I told the truth. I was honest about what’s happening in our healthcare system. And I will not be silenced by legal threats when it comes to advocating for my patients and my ability to care for them.
Denying an overnight stay that a doctor orders is dangerous. The doctor caring for the patient should be able to make these decisions without delay, pressure, or harassment.
If I don’t speak up, I lose—my integrity, my voice, and the opportunity to make a difference. And while it’s intimidating to receive a letter like this from a company as powerful as UnitedHealthcare, I know where I stand.
I am a woman taking care of women affected by breast cancer. I do this work with all of my heart, and I will continue to speak up for my patients—because they deserve better.
I ask you to follow along, share this story, and have these conversations in your own communities. I know I’m not the only one dealing with this, and real change will take all of us telling our stories and standing up for what’s right.
I’m here for it. Are you?
Nine minutes on hold and still no answers—UnitedHealthcare, are you serious?
UnitedHealthcare called me mid-surgery because they wanted justification for my patient’s diagnosis and inpatient stay—despite the surgery already being pre-approved. Worse? The rep didn’t even have full access to my patient's medical info.
After posting about it, United left a message at my office with a callback number. As a doctor, it’s nearly impossible to get through to someone at an insurance company, but I gave it a shot.
⏳I waited on hold for nearly 10 minutes—only to reach no one. I still don’t know what they wanted to discuss.
This isn’t just frustrating—it’s broken.
🚨How do we change this?
UPDATE 🚨 Remember the surgeon who was PULLED OUT OF SURGERY to speak with UnitedHealthcare so they could try and cancel her cancer patients inpatient stay after surgery?
UnitedHealthcare DID CANCEL THE HOSPITAL STAY and now they’re THREATENING HER, she’s showing the proof
