Before an assessment, ask yourself, why? Why do I want this information; what do I intend to do with it? The question is not "should I grade it" but rather, "what purpose does it serve?" Once you are clear on purpose (FA/SA), you'll know what to do. #edutwitter#ATAssessment#K12
This morning @jameselementary staff handed out hot cocoa, coffee, and donuts to say thank you to our parents!! We love our James families!! @OttumwaSchools
May is School Board Recognition Month. Thanks to the seven board members whose decisions impact our schools, our staff, and our students. #bethebest https://t.co/p7z3bAsqb5
Has your focus been on adult-centered issues instead of the student-centered issues that truly matter within your school?
This mindset shift is shown in the table from Unpacking Competency-Based Education, available now. @bstackbu @jvanderels https://t.co/qxPvf22PiK
Thank you to the Local Elks Lodge, camp volunteers, camp leaders, sponsors, counselors, administration, bus drivers, and staff for sponsoring and supporting the James and Horace Mann 5th grade Science Camp! 🤍🐾❤️ @jameselementary@OttumwaSchools
Today 5th grade and 1st grade at @jameselementary teamed up to form relationships among grade levels. This also connected to our ABC Countdown “favorite book” day! 5th grade students chose their favorite book while they were in 1st grade to read to their buddy! @OttumwaSchools
Education is not teacher centered or even student centered, but it is relationship centered. Teachers thrive w/ positive admin relationships & students thrive w/ positive teacher relationships. Relationships drive education.
Things we should model for students.
Saying thank you.
Not afraid to ask for help
Admitting you don’t know
Respecting everyone
Showing gratitude
Appreciating others
Offering help to others
Intentional listening
Saying I’m sorry when wrong
Being kind
2nd chances
What else?
“No matter what standards you are using, the most important work is collaborating with a team-digging in and learning about what student need to know and understand. We can’t expect students to learn and understand if we don’t first have clarity ourselves.” @solutiontree#SEL
🗣️"It's not about the technology we teach with; it's about how we teach with the technology!"
✏️ I ❤️ how @VirtualGiff combined a story from the book (about an overheard projector) with a quote from it!
