Mr. Thomas's Chop House was founded in 1867 by chef Thomas Studd and his wife, Sarah, who took over the business after Thomas fell ill in the 1870s. The Manchester establishment became known for its hearty, home-cooked British food and became a popular spot, particularly after its 1901 rebuild and extension. In 2019, the pub was permanently renamed Mrs. Sarah's Chop House to honor Sarah and her daughter, Sarah, acknowledging their pioneering roles in running the business for decades.
