Jessica Calderwood’s exhibition, "Material Girl" is at the Museum of Wisconsin Art | Downtown location, Saint Kate Arts Hotel, through June 1st. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.

From beautifully layered enamel paintings of human-plant hybrids to delicate sculptures cloaked in opalescent translations of classical drapery, Jessica Calderwood infuses her work with historical references, personal narrative, and creative experimentation. Simultaneously beautiful and absurd, the artist’s anthropomorphic figurines investigate humankind’s strengths and frailties with humor and charm, inviting viewers to contemplate surface design, craft, and labor through her masterful workmanship and imaginative marriage of materials.

"Eventide at the Duchess's" by John Wilde

We are excited to feature this remarkable painting in our current Magic Realism exhibition. Created in 2005, this significant work offers a retrospective look at Wilde’s artistic imagery and evolution. John Wilde (1919-2006) was a leader in the American surrealism movement, known as Magic Realism. He was a consummate draftsman employing Renaissance painting and drawing techniques in his compositions. He was known for his beautiful and bizarre subject matter and his adoration of the natural world.
