I think Cenk really doesn't care about the argument from the material and financial cost here, really he's just frothing at the mouth anytime anyone or anything is seen as even being remotely supportive of something Israel is supportive of.

Ignoring the incredibly justifiable reasons that Ukraine would be against Iran and it's regime (and ignoring the diplomatic and strategic issues between the Ukraine and Israel) and and to be completely willing to abandon Ukraine over this is, to use your own words, childish and petty if not outright intellectually malicious.

But I'm not a mind-reader, so if he wants to make an argument that isn't "Ukraine is now Israel because they are supporting Israel by fighting Russia and keeping them out of Syria as well and they want to align with Israel because they're hitting Iranian ships in the Caspian Sea" which is so reductive it makes my eyes water, then I'll listen. Though the last one is unfortunate, our current president is… barely functioning on the best of days, so I would have rather we didn’t engage the way we did.

And I’m not saying don’t be strategic or clear-minded about objectives, but to dismiss the idea that abandoning a conflict has consequences is silly. Even if you disagree with what I’ve said on different grounds, it doesn’t change the fact that by abandoning Ukraine, you are playing into Russias hands and helping them win indirectly. It’s just a consequence of the action of withdrawing.

If the stance is “we need to cut funding and Ukraine needs to accept its losses because it’s too expensive” then that, in my mind, is giving Russia exactly what it wants, you are forgoing a duty to uphold a norm of countries no longer invading and stealing territory from their neighbors on a whim, which sets a horrendous precedent (See: Taiwan/China). If you want to make the choice to stop supporting Ukraine, I think you are, whether you like it or not, tacitly supporting Russian imperialism.

The unfortunate reality in my mind is it’s either we defend Ukraine until it or Russia can no longer fight or we accept that Russia (and other adversaries) is allowed to get away with land grabs like this is 1939 and I would rather see the U.S. have to rebuild its entire defense industry with a trillion+ dollar defense budget than give a single inch to these autocratic regimes.

You’re right though, it is a terrible situation and no answer is easy, certainly not my own.

I’m not sure how it’s reactionary, if anything it’s Cenk who’s opted for the reactionary take. Cenk has decided to abandon reason and nuance in favor of what appears to be a frantic (bordering on schizophrenic) hatred of Israel, he seems okay with engaging in the worst, most reactionary behavior while actively spreading misinformation about the Ukraine War. He would rather see Ukraine burn than think otherwise.

I think his behavior and thought process is antithetical to western democracy and western values and he’s effectively no different than Trump or MAGA in this regard.

But I can see how my response could be seen as hyperbolic. Glad we exist in a world where we can disagree. 😄

I wrote 5 articles for RT in 2021. I was never paid and I am on a crusade to expose you because you are malicious propagandists with a $1.8 billion budget from the Communist Russian government to spread poison and chaos online for the sake of undermining the West, President Trump, and pushing the interests of Putin and nonstop Russian aggression.

I will be having a conversation with the Trump administration, the State Department @SecRubio and @SecScottBessent about the need for the admin to force compliance of sanctions with American social media companies, including X.

I appreciate @elonmusk’s commitment to free speech, but technically speaking, X is an American social media company and if Russia is sanctioned by the Trump admin, their state propaganda network @RT_com should not be allowed to broadcast on an American platform.

RT is committing documented foreign interference and they are supporting political violence and assassination culture in violation of X terms of service.

I have plenty of receipts. I also have receipts that prove RT is colluding with Turkish, Qatari, and Iranian state media on social media to push their foreign propaganda and create social divisions in the United States.

There needs to be a Congressional investigation into the out of control foreign influence operation by Russia on US soil via social media platforms.

I can’t believe RT is allowed to spam X everyday when they are sanctioned. President Trump is going to sign the secondary sanctions bill that just cleared the US Senate last night.

I’m not calling for censorship. I am calling for compliance with US law.

It’s a massive national security risk and now that I’ve seen the type of destruction RT causes in Ukraine, I feel even more strongly about this.
