Sir @TelanganaCMO & @NCPCR_, urgent action is needed to prevent further tragedies like the recent suicides of students disappointed with exam results. Implementing Neerada Reddy Committee recommendations is crucial for safeguarding students' well-being and future. #StudentSafety"
This is alarming!
Seven intermediate (plus 1 and plus 2) students in Telangana ended their lives, disappointed with their performance in exams after the release of intermediate results.
What's stopping governments from implementing the Neerada Reddy committee’s recommendations as corporate colleges are nothing less than “concentration camps”?
Crowded classrooms, CCTV cameras, wardens monitoring every move, weekly tests, state-wise ranking, and division into groups based on exam performance, — These are the things students go through in corporate colleges after paying lakhs of rupees.
Corporate colleges are solely focusing on IIT and NEET ranks. No breaks, No holidays, No language studies, or No sports activities.
Campuses are often housed in apartments, neglecting students' holistic development and well-being.
In 2001, a committee chaired by Professor Neerada Reddy investigated student self-harm incidents and proposed recommendations that remain unimplemented to this day.
How can this be prevented according to the Neerada Reddy Committee?
-Reduction of study hours to eight.
-Setting up grievance boxes in junior colleges
-Scrapping weekly tests.
-Ban on advertisements.
-Leisure time for all students to play some sports.
-Regular counselling and leisure time to prevent students from taking extreme decisions.
The committee used the terms "concentration camps" and "hijacked students" to describe the deplorable conditions in which students were compelled to live.
Seven students from Mancherial, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Hyderabad, and Siddipet districts, among others, ended their lives on Wednesday, disappointed with their results in the intermediate examinations.

Ironically, the parents noted that their elder son, currently in class 4 at the same school, pays 3.2 lakh, just 50,000 less than the new fee for the younger child in LKG.
"The leap from Nursery to LKG places him in a new fee bracket, almost 70% higher," the child's parent said in conversation

A new circular limits school bag weight to 15% of body weight and 'no bag day' every week. This is a great move to ensure children's physical health and lessens their burden.
