.@CNN covered the close of #TiedeVLumpkin — the federal trial that could mandate AC across the largest prison system in the US.
270+ heat deaths documented. 80,000+ people without access to adequate cooling. A ruling expected before summer.
We've been in this fight for a decade. We're not stopping now.

Incarcerated individuals across Texas continue to endure dangerously extreme temperatures, with many facilities lacking adequate air conditioning during life-threatening heat conditions.
In this feature with Deceleration, Dr. Amite Dominick, our very own Founder & President of Texas Prisons Community Advocates (TPCA), speaks about the urgent fight to address prison heat and the ongoing efforts to push for meaningful, potentially life-saving reforms.
This conversation highlights why extreme heat inside prisons is not simply uncomfortable, but a serious public health and human rights issue affecting thousands of incarcerated individuals.

Did you know? April is recognized as Second Chance Month, a time to highlight the importance of reentry, parole, and clemency. Second chances are more than release. They’re about access to opportunity, support, and the ability to rebuild a life after incarceration.
This coming April 16–17, we encourage you to show up at the TBCJ meeting. Public comment only happens twice a year, and this is your opportunity to make your voice heard and advocate for meaningful change, not only for those on the outside, but also for those incarcerated inside who deserve a chance and hope.

Attorneys for Texas prisoners say the conditions expose inmates and staff to dangerously high temperatures and have caused several deaths. https://t.co/NryG8uzg2j #85ToStayAlive
Today we showed up.
I’m grateful to stand in truth and speak on the conditions so many continue to endure inside Texas prisons. Today I took the stand in federal court to speak on the conditions inside Texas prisons.
This work is rooted in the voices of those still living through extreme heat and in honor of those who have lost their lives because of it. As we move toward another summer, the urgency remains.

Two correctional officers in Galveston have been relieved of duty over sexual assault allegations involving incarcerated women.
I was interviewed in this story. Yet, unfortunately, this isn’t new. This is what we’ve been warning about.
Abuse thrives where there’s silence, lack of oversight, and unchecked power.
As we come out of today’s hearing, we also pause to honor those inside who are suffering and those we’ve lost. Their lives matter. Their voices matter.
We’re not stopping.

This Women’s History Month, we honor the women who continue to lead, advocate, and fight for justice in our communities and beyond.
Across the country, women are organizing, speaking out, and working tirelessly to address conditions inside our prisons, uplift impacted families, and push for meaningful reform. We also recognize the strength, resilience, and voices of incarcerated women, whose lived experiences continue to shed light on the urgent need for dignity, safety, and humane conditions.
Their leadership, courage, and compassion are essential to building a more humane and just system.
At Texas Prisons Community Advocates (TPCA), we are grateful for the women within our organization, our coalition partners, and those directly impacted by incarceration who dedicate their time and voices to advocacy and change.
This month, and every month, we recognize the powerful impact of women working toward justice.

On Holocaust Remembrance Day, we pause to remember the six million Jews and millions of others who were systematically targeted, imprisoned, and killed under a regime that normalized dehumanization.
While we do not compare today’s systems to the Holocaust, we do carry forward its central lesson: when a society accepts that some lives are less worthy, unspeakable harm becomes possible.
At TPCA, we work to confront policies that deny people in Texas prisons basic safety, dignity, and care. Remembering the Holocaust means staying alert to injustice in our own time and refusing to look away.
🕯️ Never forget. Never again. Never for anyone.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! On MLK Day, we don’t just remember Dr. King’s dream; we remember his demand for action.
Texas cannot claim justice while people are:
🔥 Suffering in extreme heat
🩺 Denied proper healthcare
🚫 Treated as less than human
Human rights don’t stop at the prison gate. Honor Dr. King by taking a step today, share a post that tells the truth about prison conditions & learn more about conditions in Texas prisons and how to get involved. Let us keep the dream alive, inside and outside the walls.
