"For he would rather have, by his bedside, twenty books, bound in black or red, of Aristotle and his philosophy, than rich robes or costly fiddles or gay harps."
Geoffrey Chaucer, "The Canterbury Tales"
"It's 10:31" - only @MannGeorgia can imbue such a mundane statement with a sense of pause, reflection and celebration - as if somehow there's never been quite such a 10:31 in the whole history of the universe. @BBCRadio3
This is very sad news, that @BBCRadio3 will no longer be available to international listeners. The letter makes the excellent point that it was such a comfort during lockdown. Also surely it’s a diminution of the importance of the station, which doesn’t bode well.@PetrocTrelawny
This was such fun to do, and huge thanks to @MattNixson - do spare a moment to read it. I should add, before the armchair historians come for me, that King George DID visit other empire countries, but never after he was crowned
@MannGeorgia Quite soon, a couple of years, you'll be enjoying the apres-ski-ski-ing holiday - accomplished daughter relishing the slopes, you on the terrace with a fine view and an Aperol in front of you. And the prospect of lunch stretching ahead. Duty done 👋👋👋
Hmm. 'None' is a short form here of 'not one', and therefore takes the singular - 'None of us IS going to leave the island'. If it weren't Agatha, there'd be slapped wrists all round ...😆
What weird and wonderful thing happened on 7 February which sent my sales soaring into the stratosphere? Did Elvis suddenly reappear? The Angel Gabriel? Thoughts please, co-authors...!
