“Keke Napep Driver Confesses: How I Used Handkerchief to Lure 17 Victims for Rituals”

LAGOS, Nigeria – A 42-year-old commercial tricycle operator, simply identified as Monday Eze, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly luring passengers into a trance-like state and using them for ritual purposes.

According to police sources, Eze, who plies the Oshodi–Isolo route, confessed after his arrest that his modus operandi was deceptively simple. He would approach a potential passenger, and with a seemingly polite gesture, bring out a white handkerchief to dust or clean the passenger’s seat before they boarded.

“Once they sit on the seat I cleaned with that handkerchief, within seconds they lose their memory completely,” Eze reportedly told investigators. “They forget where they are going, who they are, and why they entered my Keke. At that point, they become completely obedient.”

Eze admitted that over the past 12 months, he had lured more than 17 people—including a nursing mother and two university undergraduates—into his vehicle under false pretenses. Victims would later regain consciousness in unfamiliar locations, stripped of their valuables, with no recollection of how they got there. Two victims are still missing.

The suspect was caught after a vigilant passenger noticed Eze repeatedly wiping the same seat for different passengers at a busy bus stop without changing the handkerchief. The passenger alerted a nearby mobile police officer. When officers searched the tricycle, they found three blood-stained handkerchiefs, a calabash containing dark oily substances, and a handwritten notebook listing dates, routes, and descriptions of victims.

Eze, who broke down in tears during interrogation, pleaded for mercy, claiming he was initiated into the practice by a herbalist in the Ogun State forest. “I didn’t kill anybody. I only delivered them. It was the herbalist who demanded the souls. Please, I am not the main person.”

The Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer confirmed the arrest and stated that a manhunt has been launched for the herbalist. “We advise passengers to be vigilant. If a driver insists on cleaning a seat that looks clean, or if they use any object repeatedly before you sit, step away and report immediately.”

Eze is currently in custody and will be charged with conspiracy, abduction, and suspected ritual murder.
