Home care: “We are having family members performing surgical dressing changes because we don’t have the staffing to accommodate their needs &/or we have had to send clients, that would normally be seen in the home, to emergency for care because of lack of home care staff” #skpoli
Rural health in #Sask.
“Two for you in the most condensed form I can manage”
“Our rural obstetrics ward has been closed for 18 months”
“We are unable to accept transfers back to home hospital because we too are at capacity”
#skpoli
Acute mental health in #Sask:
“I work on an acute mental health unit at one of our province's hospitals. At any given time, we have multiple dementia/neurocognitive disorder clients admitted on our unit. Acute mental health is not the appropriate place for them”
#Skpoli
Here we go again in rural #Sask. A multi-day care disruption - Redvers Emergency and Acute Care services.
This is what happens when we ignore health care in our province’s rural communities. They deserve so much better.
#skpoli
“Our ORs are on hold as we simply have no space to accept their patients” – 3x emails & counting today from the Royal University Hospital Operating Room Recovery Unit.
OR recovery has essentially become an inpatient unit as patients can’t be moved onto the wards.
#skpoli
“Staff are frequently working 16hr night shifts, because there is often no place for our patients to go... Some patients end up staying in the recovery room for greater than 24hrs after surgery. We are sometimes discharging patients home, straight from the recovery room.” #skpoli
Rural #Sask: Yorkton & area: “Our local hospitals are on bypass more than they are open”
Ever wondered about the chain reaction of rural bypasses, regional hospital nurse shortages, tertiary overcapacity, & STARS & road EMS not being immediately available?

Southeast Saskatchewan is AGAIN in trouble. Another multi-day emergency services bypass putting extreme stress on Estevan and Arcola.
Rural healthcare in #Sask is crumbling. We cannot neglect rural health. These communities deserve better. #skpoli
Rally with us - Oct 3, #Sask legislature, noon.
ER overcrowding, hallway beds, critical nursing shortages & declining access to rural care are fueling increasing fears for patient safety. Calls for urgent intervention are now louder than ever. #skpoli

St. Paul’s ER catastrophe…again!
“We feel so defeated. Nobody that can do something, is doing anything” ER nurse.
33 admit no bed
Hallway beds
Only 1 trauma bed
Care in overcapacity waiting room
Ambulances stuck in bay
Short nurses
What capacity action plan, #skpoli?
A national pharmacare program means a better health care system for everyone.
Janet is a nurse and a union leader. She knows what a game-changer this will be.
I have some great news to share.
Later this evening my wife will be transferred by ambulance from St. Paul's Hospital ER to a bed in the medical oncology unit at RUH
Thank you to @GatesGuarin at @GlobalSaskatoon for publicly showcasing her story.
It brought action ❤️
Today at #RCN24, Linda Silas told members why safety-critical nurse-to-patient ratios are vital for patient safety. And she reminded everyone of the power of the nursing voice to create change.

"You are family when patients are alone; a rock they can rely on, a shoulder to cry on, a confidant when they are afraid, & a voice when they cannot speak for themselves. Happy #NationalNursingWeek & thank you," @TracyZam, SUN President, message to nurses. https://t.co/zMfSxnqZiT
