@_FrancesOwen From a trial:
"Seducers corrupt the souls of their victims[] They make the whole house theirs, & it becomes unclear to which father the children belong."
There are harsher punishments dished out for seducing a man's wife than for raping her. There isn't a crime of rape.
In Ancient Athens a man who seduced a married woman into concensual sex was considered to have committed a far greater crime than a man who physically forced himself upon a woman.
Washed & dressed ready to do a podcast for Australia. It's on leadership so not sure what advice I can give via Roman Emperors - don't terrorise your secretaries/annoy your security, chose a trust worthy right hand man/woman, be sure you really want the job before taking it.
The Terminator is kind of an action movie for ladies. We get a relatable female lead, a love story, bit of male eye candy, a trope on the importance of mothers and the emotional pay off with the final scene & the photograph.
Or it could just be me. Holds up mind, still great.
Watched this last night. One of the few 80s movies where the bullet/kill count is absolutely necessary for the plot. Sarah Connor is such a good character, she's not whiney/screamy nor fiesty rule breaker. She's an ordinary woman in a horrific situtation trying to survive.
@MadocLeonard Yeah I think it's easy to go in thinking its an 80s violent shoot them up. But it is so much better than that. Catches me every time how good it is
@MerryPippin24@vrw123 I took Nicole Kidman on a guided tour & it's really hard to talk about Wordsworth when your brain is on a repeating loop of "Is that Nicole Kidman? It looks like Nicole Kidman. It IS Nicole Kidman. Is that Nicole Kidman? It looks like Nicole Kidman. It IS Nicole Kidman" etc
@MerryPippin24@vrw123 Did you manage to answer him? When Prince Charles asked me a question I lost the power of speech and my friend standing behind me had to answer for us all

Michael Caine and Sean Connery in John Huston's "The Man Who Would Be King," 1975. John Simon of New York magazine considered the film to be Huston's best work since "The African Queen," twenty-three years earlier.
@CMedina240@AhearnColeen@MarkLender1970 They certainly get the bum deal when it comes to things like adultery legislation where (surprise!) what counts as adultery for men is far more lax than for women.
@CMedina240@AhearnColeen@MarkLender1970 And class, which dictated who you could marry, who was an acceptable sexual partner and what sex acts & positions were socially acceptable for you.
Instead of all the Jesus movies, they should make a super suspenseful TV series about Early Christians, with all the hiding, secret gatherings, persecution, counterculture, fish signs, samizdat scriptures, show trials, existential level theology debates, dumb evil myopic emperors, genius letters, upside down crucifixions, lions eating virgins in arenas, etc. -- and it would be super relevant for how culture evades, evolves, spreads and transforms today.
Err almost all of Roman political discourse is vilifying your opponents sex life. Including Julius Caesar who was vilified for an alleged affair with the King of Bithynia for decades. Ancient Rome is surprisingly judgmental on who you slept with & there are laws dictating it.
